JOB OVERVIEW:

The Physical Therapist evaluates and treats patients using the principles and practices of physical therapy and in accordance with the patient's age, developmental level, and diagnosis. Collaborates with treating physicians provide quality care to patients.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Evaluates patients, establishes goals, and develops individualized treatment plans as prescribed by a licensed physician/practitioner.
  • Provides direct patient treatment based on current physical therapy practice and revises treatment plan based on the patient's response.
  • Provides education to patient and family/caregiver regarding patient's abilities and need for assistance and continued therapeutic intervention.
  • Recommends modification or changes in the patient's treatment program to the referring physician based on evaluation of progress. Confers as necessary with physicians concerning alternatives available.
  • Prepares written/computer treatment documentation as required by the profession and the department, such as physician orders, evaluation results, treatment plans, progress reports, and other such reports.
  • Follows Physician postoperative protocols to return patients to full activity after surgery.
  • Works with and oversees Physical Therapy Assistants while in clinic.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS/LICENSE:

Current Florida Physical Therapist License

 

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree is required. Must be graduate of an approved school of Physical Therapy in accordance with the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education. Master's and/or Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy are preferred.
  • McKenzie Method Certification (MDT): Certified practitioner in the McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy, with experience in assessing and treating musculoskeletal disorders using evidence-based techniques.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum one year physical therapist experience preferred but not required

 

SKILLS:

  • Comfortable working in fast paced      environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both      verbal and written.
  • Dedication to patient care

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Specific vision requirements include the ability to see at close range, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
  • Possess the ability to fulfill any office activities normally expected in an office setting, to include, but not limited to: remaining seated for periods of time to perform computer based work, participating in filing activity, lifting and carrying office supplies (paper reams, mail, etc.)
  • The position walks, sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves continually during working hours.
  • Frequently lift and/or move over 50 pounds.
  • Fine hand manipulation (keyboarding).
  • Travel may be required to existing or new TOI locations.
