General Summary of the Job:This position is responsible for performing medical assistant duties, while utilizing a variety of medical skills, specific medical terminology, and requires working under the direct supervision of a Physician. In addition, this position is responsible for coordinating patients' surgery, including scheduling procedures, obtaining medical clearances, verifying insurance and obtaining authorization. This is a Full-Time Non-Exempt position. Work location may be in either the Orange or Irvine office, and flexibility to work at both locations based on business needs is required.Essential Job Functions:Prepare for clinic / Room patientsStock/clean exam rooms and nurse stationsAssist with examinations and routine proceduresPrepare injectionsRemove staples/suturesAutoclave Dispose of sharps and biohazard containers/bags appropriatelyComplete FMLA/Disability formsComplete Meaningful UseAnswer patient phone callsRx refills per provider instructionsWaivers for DME, injection, and treatmentsFit patients for DMESign and fax physical therapy notes as instructed by providerScan documents to EMR systemSchedule surgeryVerify insurance coverage, benefits, and relay coverage information and patient responsibility to patientsCollect surgical estimates/depositsObtain prior authorization for treatment requests, including PPO, HMO, and WCCollect surgical clearancesCommunicate with patients, Physician, outpatient facility and/or hospitalCover for other clinics as needed.ExpectationsMaintain confidentiality.Follow the chain of commands.Prioritize tasks by level of importance to meet deadlines.Complete tasks in a timely manner.Education and ExperienceHigh School Diploma required.Basic computer skills required.Experience in an Orthopedic Practice preferred.Performance Requirements:Knowledge:Understanding of EPM/EHR system.Knowledge of insurance authorizationsKnowledge of scheduling processKnowledge of medical terminologySkills:Skill in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion, and decision-making.Skill in analyzing, planning, organization, and prioritization. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. There is a combination of office and clinical settings. Mental/Physical RequirementsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms above shoulder level and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb; or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds, with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Requires working under stressful conditions. Some travel to satellite offices and meetings is required.
