Triage Nurse
Position Overview
Answers questions regarding patient care per direction of the providers. Coordinate communication between the care team as needed to facilitate the plan of care.
Qualifications
- Bachelors or Associates degree required
- Current RN licensure required
- Previous work experience in a clinical or orthopedic setting preferred
Essential Job Functions
- Triages incoming telephone calls, returns patient phone messages; documents action taken in patient chart
- Instructs patient and family regarding treatment instruction, then documents action taken in patient chart
- Telephones/faxes prescription requests to pharmacy; documents action in patient chart and obtains physician signature of approval
- Oversees appointment bookings as needed and ensures emergency situations are scheduled appropriately; maintains timely flow of patients
- Reviews pre-operative instructions and explains the surgical process, as needed, to patients who are about to have surgery
- Schedules CT scans, MRIs, and other tests as needed
- Communicates physician referral requests to staff for necessary processing
- Collaborates with Clinical Supervisor, physicians, and appropriate Team Leaders/Supervisors, to plan and execute process changes that improve patient care services and patient management
- Implements physician-approved clinical protocols and patient care and triage standards, facilitating all paperwork and related tasks
- Develops and maintains written protocols for clinical operating procedures
- Understands and complies with healthcare laws such as HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), the ACA (Affordable Care Act), and other relevant regulations
- Other duties as assigned

- Maintains detailed knowledge of practice management and other computer software as it relates to job functions

- Performs all other tasks and projects assigned by Clinical Supervisor or physicians
- Experience communicating and interacting with physicians
- Strong analytical ability
- Comfortable using EMR, email and interacting with Internet applications
- Pleasant speaking voice and demeanor
- Good communication skills
Physical Requirements
- Frequent grasping, fine motor manipulation
- Hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment as required
- Sit/stand and/or walk 4-8 hours daily
- Occasional carry, push, pull, bend, crouch and/or squat
- Frequently lift up to 50 pounds, occasionally 100 pounds
- Full range of body motion to handle and lift patients as needed
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $32.00 - $40.00 per hour
Expected hours: 36 – 40 per week
