Orthopaedic Associates Surgery Center is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to join our team working in a high volume, orthopaedic only, surgery center.  The ideal candidate will have CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) or a CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution) with certification obtained within 1 year of employment, or graduate of a Surgical Technology program. 1-2 years of experience preferred, orthopaedic skills are a plus but not required. This is an outpatient-only facility, with hours worked Monday - Friday. This is a full-time position.

The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for ensuring that all surgical instruments, medical devices and equipment are properly cleaned, sterilized and ready for use in patient care. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Clean, decontaminate, disinfect and sterilize all surgical instruments and medical equipment according to the manufacturers IFU (Instruction for Use). 

·         Inspect instruments and equipment for damage, wear and/or functionality before and after processing.

·         Operates and maintains decontamination and sterilization equipment (autoclaves, washer-disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners). 

·         Completes appropriate documentation records for sterilization cycles, equipment performance and inventory.

·         Performs and understands how and when to test efficacy of equipment.

·         Assembles and prepare all instrument procedure trays/sets/individual(s) according to the content lists and Manufacturers (IFU’s).  

·         Attention to detail and quality assuring during inspecting, assembling, storage and distribution of instrumentation.

·         Appropriately utilizing sterilizer packages for wrapping or peel pouches. Marks items with identifying information and distributes and stores in designated area. 

·         Replaces missing/damaged instruments from stock on hand.  Completes required information on damaged instruments and place them in repair bins.  Notifies appropriate team members when unable to replace parts or when equipment is insufficient in the work area.  

·         Assign priority to emergency requests and issues required supplies and equipment based on knowledge of procedure intended.

·         Maintains a clean, safe and organized work environment.  Following all safety, infection control and regulatory guidelines.

·         Participates in training and continuous education in the sterile processing area.

·         Performs other related duties as required, such as examining expiration dates, tests effectiveness of autoclave function by performing Bowie Dick tests, culture spore tests (BI) and leak tests, stores equipment and supplies, cleans shelves and work areas and mops liquid spills from floors as necessary.

·         Complies with the Orthopaedic Associate Surgery Center Staff Member Handbook.

·         Must be adaptable to current and continued changes/updates to departmental processes and procedures.
