Position Summary:
The HIM Assistant Manager will support the HIM Manager by overseeing daily operations, managing staff, and assisting with administrative duties. The role will directly support and supervise the HIM team to ensure efficient workflows, growth development, and monitoring success in each department.

Position Requirements

Education: Associate degree in Health Information or health-related field of study required. Bachelor's degree preferred.

Licensure: N/A

Certification: Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) required.

Experience:

  • 1 years prior supervisory experience in a healthcare preferred.
  • 1 years coding experience in any capacity preferred.


Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Exceptional leadership skills with proven ability to build high performing and high functioning teams.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and health information technologies.
  • Familiarity with medical terms, coding systems, and classification standards.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with healthcare professionals and staff.
  • Ensuring precision in managing and reviewing health records to maintain data integrity.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assists in reviewing and updating HIM policies and procedures.
  • Monitors analysis of health records for accuracy, completeness and quality.
  • Monitors medical provider deficiencies and suspension process.
  • Provides input to implement efficiencies, improve workflows and processes through continuous quality improvement.
  • Serves as subject expertise for all medical coding, medical transcription, and medical record related matters.
  • Monitors and maintains team schedules, reviews and edits employee timecards.
  • Monitors quality assurance, productivity and accuracy by performing regular audits and provides feedback to team.
  • Assists and facilitates team weekly and monthly meetings.
  • Collaborate with vendors on service-related issues.
  • Coordinates training and updates area-training manuals as needed.
  • Monitors workflow; capturing statistical data to track volumes and productivity of functional work area.
  • Participates in continuing education curriculum, reading periodicals/literature and seeking ongoing development opportunities for team.
  • Participates and attends meetings related to assigned projects.
  • Represent the department externally and internally.
  • Monitors and provides timely and relevant daily, weekly, monthly and annual statistical and financial data to management.
  • Monitor AAPC, AHIMA, HIMSS, and other pertinent sites for best practice recommendations and any other issues that may impact the organization.
  • Employee is responsible for all other duties as assigned for which competency has been demonstrated.

Physical requirements: This position is classified as Sedentary Work in the Dictionary of Occupational Titles, requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally) up to (33% of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (33%-66% of the time) to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
