We are seeking a seasoned, compassionate Lead Medical Assistant to join our boutique concierge orthopaedic practice in Marina del Rey, specializing in foot and ankle surgery. This is a unique dual-role opportunity: you will serve as the clinical backbone of our high-touch, patient-first office while also providing operational support for the float MA team at OrthoLegal Group.
The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, upscale clinical environment, brings strong orthopaedic knowledge, and can seamlessly transition between direct patient care and behind-the-scenes operations management.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Patient Care
- Supervise and coordinate daily clinical activities across orthopaedic outpatient and inpatient settings, ensuring adherence to best practices and safety protocols.
- Lead patient intake procedures including scheduling, collecting comprehensive medical histories, vital signs, and performing initial assessments.
- Collect patient payments and coordinate imaging orders efficiently and professionally.
- Support physicians with procedures including medication administration, basic wound care, and casting in accordance with clinical guidelines.
- Manage electronic health record (EHR) systems accurately, including documentation of patient encounters, ICD coding, and treatment plans.
- Oversee surgical preparation for patients: verify consent forms, collect pre-operative payments, and coordinate with surgery centers and hospitals.
- Deliver exceptional concierge-level patient service by addressing questions, explaining procedures clearly, and coordinating follow-up care or specialist referrals (e.g., orthotics, internal medicine, neurology ).
- Maintain clinical supplies inventory, ensure equipment functionality, and uphold infection control standards across all care areas.
- Develop and maintain relationships with concierge-focused clinics to expand referral networks and drive patient volume
OrthoLegal Group — Float MA Operations Support
- Manage inventory for the OrthoLegal Group float Medical Assistant team, including coordinating supply deliveries and restocking across sites.
- Send out required paperwork and documentation to field MAs and partner sites in a timely manner.
- Monitor and manage site-level inventory to ensure float MAs have the tools and materials needed to operate effectively.
- Serve as a point of contact and operational resource for float team logistics, escalating issues as appropriate.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program required.
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, train, or supervise clinical staff or peers.
- Proficiency with EHR systems and standard clinical documentation.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities with grace under pressure.
Preferred & Highly Encouraged
- Experience in a concierge or boutique medical practice — the white-glove standard you bring is a major differentiator.
- Orthopaedic experience strongly preferred; casting experience is a significant plus.
- Familiarity with surgical scheduling, pre-op coordination, and surgery center workflows.
- Experience with ICD-10 coding and insurance/billing coordination.
- Background in operations, inventory management, or supporting a multi-site clinical team.
