JOB SUMMARY:

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) will be responsible for providing immediate medical attention and emergency care to employees in the event of injury or illness, promoting health and safety within the warehouse, and ensuring the well-being of all staff members. The EMT will work closely with warehouse management, safety officers, and other healthcare professionals to maintain a safe and healthy working environment. Ability to work extended hours, if necessary, in response to emergency situations.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

High school education or G.E.D. equivalent

Certification Required Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) certification in GA OR Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) certification in GA AND Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Req Courses/Training: Completion of EMT accredited program

TRAINING: MACHINES/TOOLS/EQUIPMENT/WORK AIDS:

Ability to achieve results through team efforts, ability to persuade, lead, counsel and coach to a diverse workforce. Knowledge of HIPAA, and patient rights Ability to work in a high pressure or changing environment and exercise good judgement to resolve problems. Must be well-organized, able to set priorities, work independently and is an effective team member. Above average communication skills and the ability to relate effectively to management and employees.

JOB RELATIONSHIPS:

Works closely with the employer in an industrial setting while representing OrthoGeorgia.

Works under the direct supervision of the clinic physician and lead ATC. No supervisory responsibilities. Has daily contact with employees, practitioners and other staff.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Must be able to work with various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Work surface will vary from concrete to hard wood floors. Job responsibilities require both inside and outside assignments. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignment without direct supervision. After hours work may be required. Must be able to work under stressful conditions.

Position may require frequent exposure to blood and/or body fluids. Appropriate PPE will be provided.

Exposure to hazardous materials may be frequent. These materials are primarily laboratory agents and cleaning and disinfecting solutions.

The Exposure Control and Hazard Communication plans of this practice detail all these materials and the situations when exposure to blood and body fluids are likely to occur.

Physical Demands:

Lifting 50 pounds, 0-10% of the time and/or pushing 100 pounds.

Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend and stoop for periods up to 10 hours per day.

Ability to work in a stressful environment.

Additional physical demands include ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb or forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach above shoulder height; simultaneously operate clinical equipment and read gauges; simultaneously speak on the telephone and write; hold delicate instruments in a steady and firm manner.

Vision: Adequate to perform the essential functions of the job such as identifying brachial vein for venipuncture; reading instrument gauges.

Hearing: Adequate to perform the essential functions of the job such as listening for circulatory functions through stethoscope.

Speaking: Adequate to perform the essential functions of the job such as providing patient education regarding treatment plans/regiments.

Dexterity: Adequate to perform the essential functions of the job such as dressing changes, venipuncture, etc.

Mental: Adequate to perform the essential functions of the job such as recording accurate patient information and assisting with exams while coordinating other services.

OTHER:

Employee must be aware of and fully support OrthoGeorgia’s policy on Customer Service as well as his/her commitment to Customer Service. Must have demonstrated ability to deliver services to

physician, patients and fellow employees with compassion and in a responsive, courteous and concerned manner in accordance with Policy 2.24.

MAJOR JOB DUTIES:

1. Proficient in utilization of Occupational Health or employer specific electronic health record platform(s). Independently able to perform clerical and clinical functions. Documents patient assessment and disposition in EMR/medical chart.

2 .Assesses patient condition/injury and provides first aid treatment consistent with scope of practice and standing orders. Recommends next level of care, when appropriate, based upon extent of injury/illness.

3 .Assists in the coordination of care of work-related injury/illness which may include scheduling follow-up visits with a provider or setting up medical transport including contacting receiving facility with patient demographics and needed information.

4 .Uses Standard Precautions for all patient encounters.

5 .Selects, applies, and educates patients on durable medical equipment as directed by provider (i.e., wraps, splints, braces, crutches).

6. Provides appropriate patient education and reviews with patient standard care instructions.

7. Arranges for patients ordered diagnostic tests by completing necessary paperwork and scheduling of appointments.

8. Performs and documents clinical procedures related to OSHA medical surveillance programs (i.e., audiograms, respirator fit testing, vision tests, etc.).

9. Assists with employer drug and alcohol testing.

10. Assists employees with general health and safety including blood pressure monitoring, safety gear maintenance, and other related items.

11 .Responds to on-site medical emergencies and coordinates medical transport when necessary.

12. Maintains current and accurate communication with employer regarding work-related injuries and other areas, as needed.

13 .Reports work-related injury/illness events to worker’s compensation carrier, if needed, as directed by the employer.

14. Ensures inspections, calibrations, and/or quality controls are maintained per manufacturer guidelines or department guidelines.

15. Completes monthly inspections and accurate record keeping of AED and other medical/safety equipment. Assists with restocking medical supplies.

16. Ensures patient care areas are clean and adequately stocked with unexpired medical supplies and has equipment that is in good working condition. Properly handles, stores, and cleans instruments, equipment, and supplies per manufacturer guidelines.

17 .Performs recordkeeping and clerical duties, as needed.
