Job Description
The Organics Maintenance Manager is responsible for ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of all processing equipment and supporting systems within Recircle Ontario’s organics recycling plant. This facility operates 24/7 to convert pre-consumer organic waste from grocery stores into high-quality livestock feed. The Organics Maintenance Manager will oversee preventative and predictive maintenance programs, ensure compliance with environmental and food-safety standards, and lead maintenance efforts on critical equipment such as shredders, conveyors, mixers, mills, packaging systems, and odor/air-handling systems.
This role will be a key partner in new equipment installations, process improvements, and facility upgrades to support sustainable, efficient, and regulatory-compliant operations. At times, the Organics Maintenance Manager may assist directly with troubleshooting and repairs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Develop, implement, and oversee preventative and predictive maintenance programs.
· Ensure timely completion of scheduled maintenance using CMMS tracking.
· Lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for equipment and system failures.
· Manage spare parts inventory and ensure critical components are available.
· Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and service providers for specialized equipment maintenance or repairs.
· Support installation and commissioning of new equipment and modifications.
· Train, supervise, and evaluate maintenance staff, promoting a culture of safety and accountability.
· Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and food/feed production regulations.
· Maintain accurate maintenance records and prepare reports on performance metrics (uptime, downtime, PM completion rates, etc.).
· Collaborate with plant leadership to drive continuous improvement in reliability, energy efficiency, and sustainability.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
· Strong working knowledge of industrial maintenance practices.
· Familiarity with processing equipment for organics recycling, mixing, conveying, and packaging.
· Experience maintaining facility utilities such as air compressors, pumps, water handling, and dust/odor control systems.
· Proficiency in CMMS systems and ability to sustain a structured preventive maintenance environment.
· Competency with Microsoft operating systems, email, and basic office applications for communication, reporting, and documentation.
· Solid understanding of electrical and mechanical safety in a food/feed production environment.
· Ability to lead, develop, and work collaboratively with maintenance staff and production teams.
DESIRED SKILLS:
· Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and process flow diagrams.
· Knowledge of automation and AI vision systems for packaging and quality control (preferred).
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) for reporting, communication, and project tracking.
· Experience with establishing baseline metrics and driving continuous improvement through TPM (Total Productive Maintenance).
· Familiarity with feed and food safety compliance (e.g., FDA, FSMA, GMP) in equipment maintenance.
· Strong data tracking and reporting skills to support decision-making.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
· A minimum of 10 years in industrial maintenance, preferably in food, feed, or recycling operations.
· A minimum of 5 years in a supervisory/management role.
· Experience with automated processing and packaging strongly preferred.
· Background in waste-to-value or food/feed processing operations is a plus.
EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATION/FORMAL TRAINING:
· High School diploma or GED (required).
· Technical training or degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance (preferred).
· Arc Flash Certification preferred.
· Food/feed safety training a plus.

· Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and resolve problems quickly.
· Demonstrated urgency, self-motivation, and ability to work independently.
· Ability to work under pressure, prioritize multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
· Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
· Work performed in a production environment, both indoors and outdoors.
· Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. unassisted.
· Exposure to fluctuating temperatures ranging from 32°F to 105°F, as well as dust, odors, and moisture inherent to organics recycling.
