What are the responsibilities and job description for the Research Associate, Analytical Biochemistry position at Ormoni Biosciences?
About Ormoni
Ormoni industrializes the development of peptide therapeutics. Our novel machine learning approaches leverage massive proprietary datasets to generate better drugs, faster, for more patients. A unique combination of high-throughput multiparameter experimentation and state-of-the-art modeling drives Ormoni’s comprehensive peptide design engine.
We are a Boston-based biotechnology team reimagining how drugs can be discovered, designed, and developed.
The Role
Ormoni is seeking a talented associate-level researcher for mass spectrometry-based proteomics and in vitro assays. They will work closely with our analytical chemistry team to develop and accelerate LC-MS/MS workflows, and with our pharmacology team on in vitro and ex vivo assays to understand drug candidate pharmacokinetics, bioavailability, and activity.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated skill and excellent attention to detail in lab-based biochemistry or analytical chemistry.
This will be a key role at an early-stage biotechnology company, with significant opportunities for impact and innovation. The successful candidate will have a record of using creative approaches to solve hard problems. We are open to a range of experience levels and excited about bringing in team members with expertise that reaches across scientific functions.
Key Responsibilities
• Contribute to development and execution of sample preparation workflows for LC-MS/MS analysis from biological samples.
• Optimize robust methods for extraction, enrichment, and cleanup of analytes from complex in vivo matrices, including plasma and tissue-derived samples, and other biological matrices.
• LC-MS/MS upkeep, maintenance, quality control.
• Conduct affinity-based assays and enrichment workflows, including selection and evaluation of affinity reagents, binding conditions, washing, recovery, and elution strategies.
• Support implementation and optimization of automated and high-throughput workflows.
• Maintain detailed experimental records and develop SOPs, protocols, and technical documentation for established workflows.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with chemistry and biology teams to support discovery and preclinical programs with biochemical experiments, cell culture, and cell-based assays.
• Interpret and present results to project teams and company-wide audiences.
Qualifications
Required:
• BS/MS in Biology, Chemistry, Biotechnology, or similar field.
• 2 years doing hands-on analytical chemistry or biochemistry in academic, biotech, or pharma research laboratories.
Preferred:
• 2 years of post-degree industry experience in biotechnology or pharma.
• Experience preparing samples for and/or operating LC-MS/MS systems, especially for proteomics workflows.
• Familiarity with molecular biology and biochemical assays such as ELISA, Western blot, qPCR, SPR, flow cytometry, microscopy, etc.
• Work with high-throughput approaches or automation to accelerate experimental workflows.
