POSITION VACANCY
Court Crier
The Orleans Parish Civil District Court has a vacancy on the general jurisdiction docket for a Court Crier. Court Criers work under the exclusive supervision of the division’s judge. Moreover, the Court Crier works as part of the division’s team to ensure the best possible experience for members of the public, members of the bar, and other courtroom employees when interacting with the division and the Court. This position is a temporary position with the possibility of becoming permanent. The initial temporary term is approximately 90 days.
General Duties:
- Provides general information and assistance to members of the public, attorneys, jurors, witnesses, litigants and other court staff, in person, via email, and telephone as necessary
- Opens court each day for the Judge and ensures decorum and order in the courtroom as instructed by the
Judge.
- Manages jurors during Voir Dire, deliberations, and lunch
- Acts as a liaison between the jurors and the judge
- Helps ensure the integrity of the jury by maintaining order and isolation from the public
- Performs clerical duties including but not limited to:
- Schedules and maintains the Division docket and calendars as instructed
- Answers phones
- Types correspondence
- Open and sort mail
- Prepare, scan, sort, organize, and file documents as necessary
- Performs data entry or inquiries in the case management system as instructed
- Acts as a liaison between the division office and other offices within the Court including the Jury Pool, Judicial
Expense Fund, the Clerk of Court’s office, and the Sheriff’s office as necessary
- Performs other duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
The successful candidate will have:
- A college degree and a minimum of 2 years of office experience.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, supervisors, other departments, law firms, attorneys, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, racial and cultural diversities and disabilities
- Ability to work in an efficient, organized, and timely manner
- Ability to comply with all employer and division policies and work rules including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, personal conduct and dress code.
- Ability to serve the public with diplomacy and respect, including the ability to professionally handle occasional encounters with irate and/or hostile persons.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment such as: a computer, including email, Microsoft office, and other programs; telephone; calculator; copier; the court’s case management system; and fax machine.
