Summary

The Director of Patient Financial Services provides strategic leadership and oversight of all patient financial services operations, including billing, collections, adjustment posting, accounts receivable management, and A/R financial reporting. This role is responsible for optimizing revenue cycle performance, maintaining the organization's cash flow requirements, ensuring regulatory compliance, and delivering exceptional, patient-centered financial service while driving operational efficiency and continuous process improvement.

Key Responsibilities

As the Director of Patient Financial Services, you will lead the hospital's patient financial services team and oversee all aspects of the revenue cycle to ensure efficient operations, exceptional customer service, and strong financial performance. Responsibilities include:

  • Provide leadership and direction for the Patient Accounts team, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and staff development.
  • Develop departmental goals, monitor performance, and implement strategies to improve revenue cycle outcomes.
  • Oversee patient billing, collections, payment posting, accounts receivable, and financial reporting to ensure timely reimbursement and healthy cash flow.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, payer requirements, and hospital policies related to billing and collections.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflows, increase efficiency, and enhance the patient financial experience.
  • Manage departmental budgets, staffing, and operational resources.
  • Monitor key revenue cycle metrics and implement corrective actions to meet or exceed performance benchmarks.
  • Oversee the effective use of patient accounting and revenue cycle systems, ensuring accurate data and reporting.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with providers, insurance companies, and other healthcare partners to resolve billing issues and improve reimbursement.
  • Address complex patient financial concerns and support a positive customer service experience.
  • Partner with other hospital leaders to improve revenue cycle performance across departments.
  • Participate in organizational initiatives, quality improvement projects, and other leadership responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in patient financial services, revenue cycle management, or healthcare finance, preferably in a hospital setting.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of patient accounting, billing, collections, accounts receivable management, reimbursement methodologies, third-party payer regulations, and revenue cycle best practices. Coding experience preferred.
  • Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems, patient accounting software, and revenue cycle management applications.
  • Demonstrated leadership, team development, and performance management skills with the ability to foster collaboration and accountability.
  • Strong analytical, financial, organizational, and problem-solving abilities with experience interpreting financial and operational data.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with patients, physicians, staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead process improvement initiatives, ensure regulatory compliance, and maintain a high standard of customer service.
  • Professional demeanor, sound judgment, and commitment to confidentiality and ethical business practices.
  • Ability to meet all hospital employment and health screening requirements

Orleans Community Health is comprised of Medina Memorial Hospital, (a designated Critical Access Hospital), a Renal Dialysis Center located in Batavia, NY, a Primary and Walk-In Clinic in Albion, NY, a 30 bed Skilled Nursing Home, Outpatient and Ambulatory Services, and Community Partners Wellness Center. Salary Expectations for this role: Annually $87,500-$97,500
