Now Hiring: Structural Engineer (Onsite – Tampa, FL)
Orion Engineering has an immediate opening for a Structural Engineer based onsite in Tampa, Florida. This position is responsible for providing senior-level structural design engineering support for the construction of marine structures across Orion, its affiliates, and external clients.
Typical projects include port facilities, wharves, liquid cargo terminals, bridges, causeways, container terminals, cruise terminals, bulkheads, docks, piers, and marinas. This role will also involve supervising Engineers and Project Management team members on a regular basis.
Specific Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the VP of Engineering and Structural Design team to achieve departmental goals and objectives
- Lead team growth through mentorship, technical guidance, and participation in hiring and evaluation of junior staff
- Interface with engineering teams, project teams, and clients to fully understand project requirements
- Apply advanced and diversified engineering principles across a wide range of structural projects
- Perform structural analysis and design for marine structures, including:
- Bulkheads
- Sheet-pile walls
- Retaining walls
- Concrete wharves
- Mooring and breasting dolphins
- (Software: LPile, DeepEX, CWALLSHT)
- Conduct finite element modeling using tools such as SAP or STAAD
- Review project documents for quality assurance and compliance
- Develop and implement improved design techniques and processes
- Provide technical guidance on safe and effective designs and construction practices
- Review and approve scopes, budgets, and schedules
- Prepare bid packages, including drawings, specifications, and cost estimates
- Represent Orion at industry conferences and symposiums
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies
- Perform additional administrative and technical duties as assigned
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering (Structural emphasis) or Structural Engineering
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in a U.S. state, or ability to obtain via reciprocity within 6 months
- Minimum 5 years of marine structural engineering design experience (required)
- Experience in marine construction, heavy industrial, or engineering design preferred
- Strong knowledge of:
- Marine structural design and engineering standards
- Marine construction materials
- Procurement, estimating, and scheduling
- Project tracking and cost control
- Safety and environmental compliance
- Ability to relocate to or currently reside in Tampa, FL (onsite role)
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across all organizational levels
- High level of integrity, discretion, and confidentiality
- Self-starter with strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage shifting priorities and work independently with minimal supervision
