Pay: $160,000.00 - $220,000.00 per year

Why This Is a Great Opportunity

  • Step into a highly visible, executive-level finance role at a nationally ranked construction and real estate development firm with 40 years of history and $7B in delivered projects across 34 states
  • Report directly to the President and CFO — your work will inform decisions at the highest levels of the organization and shape the financial future of a company on a clear path to $1B in revenue
  • Own the full financial operation — from project cost tracking and cash management to reporting, controls, and compliance — with the authority and resources to make it run right
  • Be a genuine partner to field operations and project management, not just a back-office function; this role earns trust by making financial data clear and actionable for operators who build the work
  • Lead and develop a capable finance and accounting team with the opportunity to build something lasting — better systems, stronger processes, a higher-performing organization
  • Competitive executive compensation package with strong bonus potential
  • Relocation assistance is available — the company is committed to finding the right leader and will support your move to the Quad Cities
  • Join a company with a culture consistently described by its own people as flexible, collaborative, and genuinely supportive — a place where careers are built, not just held

Location: On-site at our Davenport, Iowa headquarters. Relocation assistance is available for candidates outside the area.

Note: Candidates must have direct construction accounting experience, including WIP accounting and job cost management. Candidates without a construction or project-based industry background will not be considered.

About Us

We are a $700M commercial construction and real estate development firm with more than four decades of experience delivering complex projects across the country. Headquartered in the Midwest, we operate across multiple offices and have completed more than $7 billion in work across 34 states. Our culture is built around collaboration, accountability, and the belief that great people, relationships, and communities are built one project at a time. Confidential Employer.

Job Description

  • Own the company's daily financial operations — accounting, AP/AR, payroll coordination, and cash management — with full accountability for accuracy, timeliness, and GAAP compliance
  • Lead the monthly close process across all business units, maintaining rigorous internal controls and adherence to financial policies
  • Manage project-level financial tracking including job cost reporting, WIP analysis, and percent-complete accounting; partner with project managers to ensure financial data reflects field reality
  • Develop and maintain dashboards and reporting tools that give operational leaders real-time visibility into project financial performance, gross margins, and cash flow
  • Lead the annual budgeting process across all business units and maintain rolling forecasts and scenario analyses that keep leadership ahead of changing conditions
  • Produce accurate, timely financial reports for the President, CFO, and executive team — P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, and project-level summaries
  • Support project teams in understanding the financial implications of change orders, claims, and closeout activity
  • Champion continuous improvement of financial systems, ERP optimization, and reporting infrastructure with an eye toward scalability at $1B in revenue
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance and accounting team; build a culture of accountability, growth, and financial literacy across the organization

Qualifications

  • 5 years of progressive finance and accounting experience; 3 years in a senior finance leadership role
  • 2 years of direct construction accounting experience — WIP accounting, job cost tracking, and bonding familiarity are essential
  • Proven track record managing financial operations for a company in the $200M–$1B revenue range
  • Strong command of GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance requirements
  • Experience leading multi-entity budgeting, forecasting, and financial consolidation
  • Proficiency with construction ERP platforms (Viewpoint, Sage, CMiC, or equivalent)
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field required; CPA preferred
  • Must be based in Iowa or willing to relocate; relocation assistance is available

Why You'll Love Working Here

This is a company where the VP of Finance is a true operational partner — not a compliance function tucked in the back office. You'll sit at the table with the President and CFO, earn the trust of project teams by speaking their language, and build something that lasts. The culture here is consistently described as more flexible and collaborative than anywhere else people have worked — supportive, accountable, and focused on long-term growth for both the company and the people in it. If you want to lead something meaningful at scale, this is the role.
