Location

Rochester, NY. This is primarily an on-site opportunity offering close collaboration with leadership and technical teams.

We are seeking a USPTO-registered Patent Agent or Patent Attorney with 5 years of relevant intellectual property experience. Strong patent prosecution and IP portfolio management experience is essential. Both patent agents and attorneys are encouraged to apply.

Job Description

• Lead and manage our intellectual property portfolio, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.
• Develop and execute IP strategies that protect innovations and support long-term business growth.
• Draft, file, and prosecute U.S. patent applications, including preparing responses to USPTO Office Actions.
• Coordinate international patent filings, PCT applications, and foreign patent counsel.
• Partner with engineers and technical teams to identify patentable inventions and protect emerging technologies.
• Oversee patent renewals, portfolio maintenance, IP budgets, and intellectual property enforcement.
• Support licensing agreements, technology partnerships, and IP-related contractual matters.
• Advise senior leadership on intellectual property risks, opportunities, and strategic decisions.

Qualifications

• 4 years of relevant patent prosecution or intellectual property portfolio management experience.
• Active USPTO registration as a Patent Agent or Patent Attorney.
• Hands-on experience drafting patent applications and responding to USPTO Office Actions.
• Strong understanding of patent portfolio management, intellectual property protection, and U.S. patent procedures.
• Experience with international patent prosecution or PCT filings is preferred.
• Mechanical engineering, industrial technology, or manufacturing-related experience is a plus.
• Strong communication, organizational, and independent decision-making skills.
