POSITION SUMMARY

This position is accountable for providing marine project support to Orion Marine Construction Gulf Coast. Incumbents are responsible for supervising the on-going project operations and ensuring that all work performed is done in a safe and efficient manner. This individual will work closely with the Project Superintendent, Project (Field) Engineer, Safety Representative, Boat Captain, Pile Drivers, Welders, Carpenters, Helpers, Laborers and other skilled or semi-skilled craft persons on the work site. A Traffic Control Foreman oversees and manages a traffic control crew, ensuring that work is proceeding safely and efficiently according to specifications. They are responsible for managing personnel, materials, and equipment related to traffic control operations, such as directing traffic and maintaining safety on job sites.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works as assigned by the Project Superintendent to ensure the successful completion of current, on-going marine construction projects.
  • Plans and schedules work activities with project operations an assigns work crews to such tasks.
  • Monitors construction time schedules to make sure project deadlines are met and work completed on time.
  • Ensures that proper permits are in hand prior to any work proceeding.
  • Inspects equipment visually to ensure that it is operating properly.
  • Supervises skilled or semi-skilled craft employees working on the project work site.
  • Ensures compliance with all Company Health, Safety & Environmental Policies and Procedures.
  • Trains new workers in use of equipment and tools and analyzes and resolves work problems.
  • Maintains accurate time records for employees in the work crew and supervises and coordinates activities of employees in the work crew.
  • Promotes a safe, efficient, and organized work environment for employees.
  • Demonstrates safety knowledge concerning chemical and/or process hazards associated with construction work. These include but are not limited to lockout/tagout, confined space, fall protection, respiratory protection, emergency action plan, work permits, CPR/First Aid procedures, and job and/or contract requirements.

  • Supervising and managing a traffic control crew:
  • This includes assigning tasks, providing training, and ensuring that crew members adhere to safety regulations.
  • Overseeing traffic control operations:
  • This involves directing traffic flow, setting up and maintaining traffic control devices like signs and barricades, and ensuring that all traffic is diverted safely.
  • Ensuring compliance with safety regulations:

This includes ensuring that all work is conducted in accordance with relevant safety standards and that all personnel are properly trained and equipped.

  • Managing resources:

This involves ensuring that the necessary materials, equipment, and personnel are available to perform the work efficiently and safely.

  • Monitoring progress and ensuring work is completed on schedule:

This involves tracking progress, identifying potential delays, and taking corrective action to ensure that work is completed on time.

  • Works closely with the Project Superintendent, Barge Foreman, Crane Operators, Welders, Helpers, Laborers, and other skilled and semi-skilled crafts persons to complete current projects in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Remains qualified and physically able to drive regular passenger vehicles to visit work locations and job sites.
  • Participates in and ensures participation in Safety and Environmental initiatives that will contribute to compliance of State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs.

This may include experience with various types of traffic control devices, such as signs, barricades, and portable lights.

This includes communicating clearly with crew members, other workers on the job site, and the public.

The ability to identify and resolve problems quickly and efficiently is essential for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of traffic control operations.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of five (5) years marine construction experience or equivalent experience in a marine construction supervisory capacity. Incumbents must be well-versed in receiving and handling of equipment used for marine operations, reading blueprints and diagrams. In addition, incumbents must have knowledge of the integration of various crafts to successfully perform their work. Craft knowledge should include piledriving, crane operations, welding, carpentry, sandblasting, pipefitting and related areas. Incumbents should also possess previous supervisory experience and be certified in First Aid and CPR.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.

The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.

This individual must also have the ability to identify critical issues and formulate action plans with all levels of management, including corporate.

The incumbent must possess the ability to remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident and as directed by the Safety Representative or other management personnel. Must be capable of evacuating the work area in a timely manner should an emergency situation arise.

In addition, Foreman must also be capable of:

  • Walking, stepping, climbing, or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another, and normally involves physically getting onto and off of work barges, boats, vessels, or dock facilities of varying heights and access parameters.
  • Standing, stooping, kneeling, squatting, climbing, or sitting for long periods of time.
  • Climbing vertical ladders to heights of 40'-50'.
  • Working in confined spaces or at elevated heights.
  • Lifting objects up to 50 lbs. as required.
  • Carrying objects up to 50 lbs. as required.
  • Adapting to extreme temperature changes and to outdoor conditions and prolonged exposure.
  • Remaining calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident.
