Description:

This is a second shift position working 3:25 p.m. to 1:55 a. m. Monday through Thursday. Hours worked within the stated shift hours are eligible for a shift differential of 7.5% on the base rate of pay.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Level 1

  • Conducts pre-production set-up, ensuring efficient workstation layout and that all materials are available and acceptable for use and obtains buyoff from authorized co-worker.
  • Conducts inspection of all tasks performed, ensuring that all products and services meet quality standards.
  • Notifies Supervisor of all non-conformances immediately, per existing procedures.
  • Endeavors every day to reduce and eliminate non-conformances.
  • Performs all jobs according to customer requirements utilizing Orion’s Quality Management System, engineering drawings, specifications, job plans, parts lists, MSDS and other required documents as applicable.
  • Assigned processes include, but are not limited to, drilling, countersinking, riveting, deburring, part marking/touch up, packaging/part protection, bracket building.
  • Models appropriate work performance as an example to Orion Program Participants
  • Process work within performance and delivery requirements:

  • Other duties as assigned.

Level 2 - Accomplishes all duties and responsibilities of level 1 plus:

  • Complete first article inspection on all new jobs ensuring that job kits are complete, tools are identified and available and first article is assembled per customer requirements; obtains buy-off from Quality Assurance
  • Documents all nonconformance’s immediately per existing procedures.
  • Works with Mechanical Assembly Lead and QA to obtain root cause and provide corrective action.
  • Assigned processes include, but not limited to blueprint/specification interpretation (detail and assembly), drilling (rivet holes), countersink, deburr, fastener installation, hand lay out, part marking, packaging/part protection, planning interpretation, precision measuring instrument utilization, repair, riveting, tooling design (jigs, fixtures, shop-aides), electrical bonding (certification required).
  • Provides On-the-Job training to Level I or Level II Mechanical Assembly Technicians
  • Supports process improvements by utilizing 5-S strategies, contributing to lean-line design, devising shop aides, suggesting cost reduction strategies, etc.
  • Set-up tooling and production processes on equipment listed above.
  • Promote Program Participant abilities, independence, and self-esteem by providing individualized training and support.
  • Instruct Program Participants on processing work within delivery requirements.
Requirements:

Qualifications:

Level 1

  • Manufacturing experience utilizing various machines and processes.
  • Use and be familiar with assembly and measuring tools, such as scale, caliper, ball and pin gauges, handheld and squeeze type riveting tools, drills and drill press and a variety of small hand tools and fixtures.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications.
  • Demonstrated shop math skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collectively.
  • Customer service skills; able to relate well to all internal and external customers.

Level 2- AII qualifications of level 1 plus:

  • Two years of relevant manufacturing experience.
  • Ability to provide on-the-job training or mentoring.

  • Frequent use of hands and fingers to reach, manipulate, handle, and hold material.
  • Frequent use of vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and spatial relationship.
  • Frequent use of hearing ability to receive detailed information through oral communication.
  • Frequent use of speaking ability to express or exchange ideas, communicate detailed information, or convey instructions.
  • Frequent lifting of 5 or 10 pounds, with occasional lifting to 35 pounds.
  • Consistent exposure to manufacturing shop floor, requiring use of Safety Glasses.
  • Consistent exposure to excess noise levels, necessitating the use of Hearing Protection
