Definition

Provide educationally related services in the areas of gross or fine motor skills to special education students when such services are necessary for the student to benefit from the educational program.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Conduct assessments of students to determine eligibility for occupational therapy services. Select appropriate evaluation tools, interpret results and write reports.

  2. Plan and develop appropriate intervention IEP goals and objectives that are educationally relevant.

  3. Maintain a system of documentation that includes progress notes for parents.

  4. Collaborate with parents and members of the educational team.

  5. Attend staffings and IEP meetings.

  6. Provide inservice and consultation for staff when appropriate.

  7. Implement service delivery to assigned students based upon the IEP goals and objectives.

  8. Create and maintain a working schedule to meet the service delivery needs of students on caseload that is shared with necessary staff.

  9. Maintain organized working files on assigned students.

  10. Participate in the selection, design and/or construction of necessary adaptive equipment.

  11. Collaborate with medical personnel and other health care providers in the coordination of medical care protocols and act as resource to school personnel in interpreting occupational therapy services.

Educational and Certification Requirements

Must hold a bachelor's or master's degree in occupational therapy from an approved and accredited occupational therapy program by the American Occupational Therapy Association.

Must be eligible for certification examination administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) or have passed the exam.

Valid California Motor Vehicle License

First Aid Certificate
