Origin Mining Company is seeking an experienced Chief Metallurgist to lead the metallurgical activities at the Mineral Park Mine. The Chief Metallurgist will be a key player in optimizing the processing of copper and molybdenum resources, ensuring the highest standards of efficiency, quality, and sustainability.
Responsibilities:
- Metallurgical Process Optimization: Oversee and optimize the copper and molybdenum extraction processes to maximize resource recovery and maintain product quality
- Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of metallurgists, engineers, and technicians, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment
- Research and Development: Stay abreast of industry advancements, implementing new technologies and techniques to enhance metallurgical processes
- Quality Control: Implement and monitor quality control measures to ensure compliance with established standards and specifications
- Environmental Compliance: Work in conjunction with environmental teams to ensure metallurgical processes align with sustainability and environmental regulations
- Project Management: Manage metallurgical projects, ensuring timely and cost-effective execution while meeting safety and environmental standards
- Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mining, geology, and engineering, to optimize overall operational efficiency
- Reporting: Generate comprehensive reports on metallurgical processes, production efficiency, and contribute to strategic decision-making
- Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Mineral Processing, or a related field. Advanced degree is a plus
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in metallurgical roles, with at least 2 years in a leadership position
- Experience with copper or base metal mining
- In-depth understanding of metallurgical processes, mineralogy, and mineral processing equipment
- Proven ability to lead and motivate a technical team, fostering innovation and collaboration
- Strong communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical information to diverse audiences
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to address metallurgical challenges and implement effective solutions
- Prior experience in implementing and enforcing safety protocols within metallurgical operations
- Familiarity with environmental regulations and a commitment to sustainable and responsible mining practices
- MSHA training certification or ability to get certification required
To be eligible for this position, an individual must possess the following requirements to perform the essential job functions:
- Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion
- Able to operate a telephone and mine phone/radio with sufficient voice and hearing to carry on a conversation for the purpose of communicating information, to management
- Able to lift up to 25 pounds periodically
- Must possess a valid Driver’s license and be able to operate a light vehicle
