Position Summary

Orgenesis is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Database Developer to support the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise database systems that support business operations, research, manufacturing, clinical programs, and corporate functions. The Database Developer will be responsible for ensuring data integrity, security, availability, and performance while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable database solutions.

The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in database development, SQL programming, data modeling, performance optimization, and data integration technologies within a highly regulated environment.


Key Responsibilities

Database Development & Design

  • Design, develop, and maintain relational database systems.
  • Create database objects including tables, views, indexes, stored procedures, functions, and triggers.
  • Develop efficient SQL queries and database scripts.
  • Build and maintain logical and physical data models.
  • Support application development teams with database design and implementation.

Database Administration Support

  • Monitor database health, availability, and performance.
  • Assist with database installation, configuration, and upgrades.
  • Perform database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery testing.
  • Maintain database environments across development, testing, and production systems.

Data Integration & ETL

  • Design and implement data integration processes.
  • Develop ETL workflows for moving and transforming data.
  • Integrate data from multiple business systems and applications.
  • Support data warehousing and reporting initiatives.

Performance Optimization

  • Analyze database performance metrics.
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.
  • Optimize SQL queries and indexing strategies.
  • Improve data processing efficiency and system scalability.

Security & Compliance

  • Implement database security controls and user permissions.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory standards.
  • Support data governance initiatives.
  • Conduct database audits and maintain security documentation.
  • Protect sensitive business, clinical, and operational data.

Documentation

  • Create and maintain technical documentation.
  • Document database architecture, processes, standards, and procedures.
  • Develop user and operational support guides.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with software developers, analysts, engineers, and business stakeholders.
  • Participate in project planning and system implementation activities.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in:
    • Computer Science
    • Information Technology
    • Software Engineering
    • Data Science
    • Related technical discipline

Equivalent experience may be considered.


Experience

  • 3–5 years of database development experience.
  • Experience working with enterprise-scale database environments.
  • Experience designing and optimizing database solutions.
  • Experience supporting data integration and reporting systems.

Technical Skills

Required

  • Advanced SQL programming skills.
  • Strong experience with:
    • Microsoft SQL Server
    • PostgreSQL
    • MySQL
    • Oracle Database
  • Database performance tuning and optimization.
  • Data modeling and database design.
  • Backup and recovery procedures.
  • Stored procedures, triggers, and functions.
  • ETL development and data migration.

Preferred

  • Experience with:
    • MongoDB
    • Cassandra
    • DynamoDB
  • Knowledge of:
    • Python
    • Java
    • C#
    • PowerShell
  • Experience with cloud platforms:
    • AWS
    • Microsoft Azure
    • Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Experience with healthcare, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or regulated industries.
  • Knowledge of data governance and compliance frameworks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting life sciences or biotechnology organizations.
  • Understanding of clinical, manufacturing, laboratory, or quality management systems.
  • Familiarity with FDA-regulated environments.
  • Knowledge of business intelligence platforms and reporting tools.
  • Relevant database certifications are a plus.
