Join our team at the Oregon Youth Authority (OYA) as a Facility Maintenance Specialist (FMS) at Camp Riverbend in La Grande, Oregon! As an FMS, you'll play a crucial role in the maintenance and repair of OYA buildings and vehicles, showcasing your skills in various trade areas such as plumbing, carpentry, painting, grounds keeping, welding, and more. But that's not all – this role is about more than just maintenance. You'll also have the opportunity to supervise, instruct, and mentor youth, helping them develop valuable work skills, safety awareness, and a strong work ethic. Your role involves providing regular feedback and evaluations to guide these young individuals on their path to success. If you hold a waste water license and have experience, that's a plus, but we value your ability to work effectively under pressure and your knowledge of maintenance procedures and safety precautions. What You Need To Qualify:

  • Two years of: a) general building maintenance; b) carpentry; c) electrical; d) mechanical; e) painting; or f) plastering experience.

A journeyman's license/card in any of the above trades will substitute for this experience. Be sure a copy of your journeyman's license/card is attached to your application form.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Driving is an essential function of this position. A valid driver license and an acceptable driving record are required for this position. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s).
  • Employee will be required to obtain their Oregon wastewater operator certification within 18 months of hire (OYA will cover training and costs) to be eligible for this position.

  • Waste water license and experience.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure
  • Communicate in a professional manner both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work with or without direct supervision.
  • Working knowledge of maintenance procedures including safety precautions.
  • Operating mechanical equipment
  • Using hand and power tools
  • Read, understand and apply schematic drawings or blueprints.
  • Inspect malfunctioning equipment and determine a plan for repair, modification or replacement.
  • Interpret and apply information from procedural and manufacturer handbooks to solving problem and make decisions.
