Job Description:

Oregon Steel Fabrication is an AISC-certified steel fabrication looking for an experienced Shift 2 Welder/Fabricator Lead to help lead our weekend production team. This position works alongside the Shift Lead and serves as their backup, helping coordinate workflow, maintain quality standards, and keep production moving safely and efficiently.

This is a working lead position. You will spend most of your shift fitting, welding, and fabricating alongside the crew while supporting daily production, mentoring team members, and ensuring quality and safety standards are met. This position is expected to both produce and lead by example.

Available Shift:

Shift 2 - Friday, Saturday & Sunday

  • (3) 12-hour shifts, 5:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
  • Weekend Shift
  • Shift differential offered

Success in this role means balancing hands-on production with leadership—working alongside the crew while helping keep quality, safety, and production on track.

Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret fabrication drawings
  • Fit, weld, and fabricate structural and misc steel
  • Support the Shift Lead in coordinating daily production and crew workflow
  • Serve as the acting Shift Lead in their absence
  • Lead by example by maintaining a high level of personal productivity while helping the crew meet production goals
  • Help assign work, answer fab questions, and remove production roadblocks
  • Mentor and train fabricators and welders
  • Perform quality checks to ensure work meets company and customer standards
  • Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, saws, ironworkers, and fabrication equipment
  • Promote a safe, organized, and efficient work environment
  • Communicate production issues and progress with shop leadership
  • Help maintain equipment and ensure proper housekeeping throughout the shift

Qualifications (Required):

  • 5 years of steel fabrication and welding experience.
  • Strong blueprint reading and layout skills.
  • Proficiency with MIG welding.
  • Proven ability to balance hands-on production with leadership responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership or lead-person experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment.
  • Reliable attendance and strong work ethic.
  • Willingness to be flexible and support a small weekend crew where responsibilities may vary.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work well with others in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and safely work in a fabrication shop.
  • Demonstrates the qualities of anIdeal Team Player.

Preferred (Not Required):

  • Experience with AISC fabrication standards
  • Experience operating overhead cranes and forklifts
  • Experience mentoring and training fabricators or welders
