Security Officer – Portland Japanese Garden – Portland

Portland Japanese Garden is hiring a full-time Security Officer to help protect visitors, employees, facilities, and assets at its Washington Park campus. This position combines public-facing service, vehicle-gate access control, grounds patrol, emergency response, and professional report writing.

Position Details

Primary Duties

• Maintain a safe, welcoming environment for visitors and employees.
• Control the main vehicle entrance and help enforce site policies.
• Patrol the grounds and facilities, including regular security sweeps.
• Observe and document incidents, criminal activity, and hazardous conditions.
• Lock, unlock, and alarm facilities and respond appropriately during emergencies.
• Write daily activity and incident reports for management review.
• Coordinate professionally with Garden staff, outside security providers, and law enforcement.
  
  

Qualifications

• At least one year of security-industry experience.
• Current Oregon DPSST certification preferred, or the ability to become certified before starting.
• Current driver’s license and ability to provide a satisfactory DMV report after hire.
• Comfort using a computer and Microsoft Office programs.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  
  

Schedule And Physical Requirements

The available schedule is Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., or Friday through Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to midnight. Security Officers are essential employees and may be required to work during Garden closures or inclement weather. Applicants must be able to work outdoors in varied weather and lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
