What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Summer Programs position at Oregon Episcopal School?
OUR MISSION: Oregon Episcopal School educates students to realize their power for good as engaged citizens of the world.
ABOUT US: Founded in 1869, Oregon Episcopal School today occupies a wooded 59-acre campus where 880 students in Pre-K through 12th Grade share an excellent faculty, an inquiry-based curriculum, and a strong sense of community. The Upper School also includes a small boarding program of international and domestic students who live and learn together, enhancing the vibrancy of the school community.
OES seeks and values employees who continually grow in their work practices. Teaching faculty engage in the Characteristics of Effective Teaching for their ongoing learning in service of students. All other employees engage in professional growth specific to their responsibilities. Together, faculty and staff create a vibrant and diverse community of lifelong learners.
As an Episcopal school, we are rooted in a rhythm of gathering and reflection that values and respects all beliefs and cultures. As such, we educate toward a larger purpose – toward inclusion and respect, service and justice, and commitment beyond ourselves.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Summer Programs provides visionary, strategic, operational, and pedagogical leadership for all aspects of Oregon Episcopal School’s summer programming. The Director will transform OES summers into a nationally recognized extension of the school’s mission—advancing inquiry, leadership, belonging, innovation, stewardship, and community while strengthening enrollment, partnerships, and long-term institutional sustainability. This leader builds a mission-aligned summer enterprise that expands OES’s educational impact, cultivates future enrollment, develops innovative programming, and continually establishes OES as a destination for transformational learning.
The Director leads the teams within Summer Programs and builds bridges with all OES teams that work during the summer months. Working in close partnership with the Chief Operating Officer, Assistant Director of Summer Programs, and colleagues across faculty, admissions, advancement, athletics, operations, and other areas, the Director balances inspiration with execution: imagining what Summer at OES can become while building the systems, relationships, staffing, financial model, and operational discipline required to deliver consistently excellent experiences for students, families, partners, and staff.
OPPORTUNITY & VISION:
OES believes learning should not stop when the school day—or school year ends. Through innovative summer experiences, community partnerships, environmental stewardship, leadership institutes, and mission-aligned programming, Summer Programs can serve as the front porch of the institution: welcoming new families, extending the educational mission, generating resources for the future, and creating transformational experiences that help young people discover their power for good.
Summer also offers OES a powerful institutional laboratory: a place to pilot inquiry-based programs, AI and ethics curriculum, environmental leadership, interdisciplinary learning, boarding experiences, admissions initiatives, community partnerships, and faculty innovation before promising ideas to become embedded in the academic year.
At Oregon Episcopal School, Summer Programs are not an extension of the school year, they are an extension of our mission.
