Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of experience and education equivalent to eight years of experience that typically supports the knowledge and skills for the classification related to the Oregon State Legislative process.
OR
A bachelor's degree in business or public administration, behavioral or social sciences, finance, political science or any degree demonstrating the capacity for the knowledge and skills; and five years professional-level evaluative, analytical and planning work related to the Oregon State Legislative process.
Special Qualifications
Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid US driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

A Day In The Life
- Serve as the main point of contact between the agency and state legislators and maintain relationships with lawmakers, staff and other partners.
- Track bills, amendments and other legislative efforts.
- Develop and execute legislative strategy to accomplish goals.
- Review bills, amendments and measures and work with staff to understand impacts and make recommendations.
- Draft briefing papers, memos and reports about the impacts of measures on agency programs, funding and systems.
- Initiate and manage the development of legislative concepts.
- Oversee the implementation of legislation after session.
- Assemble work groups to resolve legislative issues and serve on task forces and committees.
- Develop, understand and implement the agency’s vision and priorities.
- Hybrid work options available – can work remotely up to 3 days per week depending on legislative needs.
- Work is performed in an office environment and may require working evenings and weekends.

- Experience with the Oregon state legislative process including current legislative membership and current working relationships with offices in both chambers.
- Experience analyzing legislation, policy proposals and their operational and cost impacts to state agencies.
- Experience consolidating complex information into clear, concise written and spoken analyses, briefings or presentations.
- Experience working collaboratively with multiple organizations, sub-organizations, interest groups and public perspectives to manage competing priorities and come to consensus.
- Ability to remain calm in high pressure situations under public and political scrutiny.
- Ability to understand and interpret complex and nuanced political, social and policy factors that influence legislative priorities and actions.
