Summary Of Duties
As a Payroll Analyst, you will be:
- Reviewing and providing guidance to employees, managers, and HR staff for entries into payroll and benefit systems.
- Reviewing and analyzing reports and making adjustments as needed.
- Reviewing and processing any contested or complicated transactions.
- Applying basic bookkeeping, payroll, and benefit practices and principles in accordance with various rules and policies.
- Reconciling payroll, benefits, and protected leave reports in accordance with rule/policy.
- Performing basic analysis of agency payroll, benefits, or protected leave data from agency or statewide payroll application reports.
- Communicating and explaining pertinent payroll, benefits, or protected leave data.
- Suggesting improvements to business practices.
- Providing basic training on the payroll and benefit systems.
- Instructing staff on proper timesheet entry and coding.
- Two years of experience in analyzing, calculating, recording, and maintaining routine financial information and must include accounting, data, or payroll processing; OR
- At least 96 quarter (64 semester) credit hours or associates degree from an accredited college, university, or vocational- technical school that includes 12 quarter (9 semester) hours in accounting, business, or finance; OR
- A Certified Payroll Professional’s (CPP) certificate; OR
- One year of experience analyzing, calculating, recording, and maintaining routine financial information and must include accounting, data, or payroll processing AND
- At least 43 quarter (29 semester) credit hours from an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical school that includes 8 quarter (6 semester) hours in accounting, business, or finance; OR
- One year of experience analyzing, calculating, recording, and maintaining routine financial information and must include accounting, data, or payroll processing AND payroll certification from an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical school.
We are looking for candidates with:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- State Payroll: Knowledge of federal and state wage and hour regulations, tax laws affecting payroll, and regulations
- Software Knowledge: Ability to learn Workday system to process payroll
- Customer Service: Ability to work with a wide range of individuals in a positive, productive manner is critical to success in this position
