We are seeking a highly skilled Cannabis Company Accountant to join our finance team. Duties
- Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP and industry standards
- Manage general ledger accounting, including journal entries, account reconciliation, and balance sheet reconciliation
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes ensuring timely payments and collections
- Conduct bank reconciliations and cash flow analysis to monitor liquidity positions
- Ensure compliance with regulatory reporting requirements specific to the cannabis industry
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities
- Support internal and external audits through detailed documentation and audit trail maintenance
- Maintain accurate records using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, PeopleSoft, or similar platforms
- Prepare tax-related documentation leveraging experience in tax compliance and regulations such as securities law or estate law as applicable
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on financial management projects including cost analysis and financial report writing
- Mentor junior staff members on accounting best practices and technical accounting principles
Requirements
- Proven experience in corporate accounting with a focus on financial statement preparation and analysis
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, accrual accounting, double entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, and financial concepts
- Familiarity with SOX compliance, LIHTC programs, and governmental accounting standards is preferred
- Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, PeopleSoft, or equivalent systems
- Experience with regulatory reporting within the cannabis or related regulated industries is highly desirable
- Solid understanding of financial management principles including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow analysis, and account reconciliation
- Ability to interpret complex financial reports accurately and communicate findings effectively
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in account analysis and journal entries
- Strong analytical skills complemented by experience in auditing, financial services, or private equity environments is advantageous
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA certification is a plus
