Saint John's Preparatory School invites applications for the full-time, benefit eligible position of Director of Advancement.
Saint John's Preparatory School is a Catholic/Benedictine, co-educational, day and boarding college preparatory school for students in grades 6-12, with boarding options beginning in the 9th grade. Saint John's Prep is located on the 3,000 acres of woods and lakes of Saint John's University's campus in central Minnesota.
Since its founding in 1857, Saint John’s Preparatory School has provided exceptional education in the Catholic Benedictine tradition. Prep has continuously dedicated itself to both educational development and personal formation.
The Director of Advancement is the school’s lead development and advancement officer, reporting directly to the Head of School and serving on the executive leadership team. The director provides strategic direction and management for the Prep School’s Advancement Office, leading and overseeing capital and annual fundraising, communications and events, and alumni relations.
The Director will join the school as it prepares to celebrate the extraordinary success of a comprehensive campaign launched in April 2024, which has surpassed its $10 million goal. The new Director will lead a talented and collaborative team that raises $1 million annually in philanthropic support from the Annual Fund, special events, planning giving, capital giving, and endowed giving.

The posted wage represents OSB's good faith estimate of likely compensation at the time of posting. Actual pay will be dependent upon several factors, including the candidate's experience, qualifications, and skills, and may fall outside of the range indicated.
Responsibilities:
Institutional Advancement
- Work with the Head of School and the Advancement Committee of the Board of Regents to set advancement priorities.
- Create and execute a strategic advancement plan, including a clear set of priorities and an annual action plan.
- Lead, supervise, and mentor Advancement staff and assure that goals are met.
- Ensure that the external image of Saint John’s Preparatory School is conducive to increasing voluntary support.
- Work collaboratively with the Alumni Relations Manager to deepen and broaden school affinity and support.
- Manage the Advancement Office budget.
Development
- Steward donor relationships to sustain and grow our donor base.
- Work collaboratively with the Annual Giving Manager to develop and execute successful annual giving strategies.
- Enhance and expand the school’s planned giving program.
- Working collaboratively with the Director of Communications and Events, provide leadership and oversight of the Prep School communications, marketing and visibility.
- Ensure that communication activities are appropriately coordinated and integrated with advancement and admissions.
Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
- Five or more years of experience with fundraising.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proven track record of securing major gifts and developing a strategic plan for advancement.
- Ability to cultivate relationships.
- Team and results oriented leader with a high level of personal integrity.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated skill land creativity in strategic planning.
- Ability to create a positive working environment, collaborative.
- Excellent computer skills, Microsoft Office and database management.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
- Sitting for prolonged periods of time. Extensive use of computers and keyboard. Occasional walking and lifting may be required.
