Job Title: Substance Use Counselor
Location: Des Moines, IA (Downtown)
Pay for this position is posted at:
- $19.00 for temporary licensed
- $21.00 for completed licensed
Schedule for this position: 9:00am-5:00pm Monday-Friday, with one night a week going to 6:00pm

Position Overview: The Substance Use Services Counselor is responsible for conducting formal assessments, determining appropriate levels of treatment and providing individual, group and as required, family sessions to a caseload of clientele. This position will function effectively as a member of a treatment team and represent the agency in a professional manner. Ongoing communication with referral sources and co-workers is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct formal assessments and determine appropriate levels of treatment.
- Provide individual, group, and family counseling sessions.
- Maintain accurate client records and documentation.
- Collaborate with referral sources and community resources to support client care.
- Conduct and/or supervise CLIA-waived urine testing.
Qualifications:
- Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) in Iowa AND a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, or a related field.
- Candidates with a temporary CADC and relevant experience will be considered.
- Master’s degree and licensure (LMSW, LMHC, LMFT, or LISW) with experience in substance use treatment is a plus.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Understanding of community resources and treatment approaches.
