SUMMARY:
The Bilingual Behavioral Health Intervention Services (BHIS) Caseworker functions as a member of the Outreach team and partners with youth, families, and the treatment team to develop, implement, and achieve individualized treatment goals. The BHIS Caseworker provides services as outlined in the treatment plan as recommended by LPHA. Services are delivered primarily in clients' homes and community settings.
This position requires the ability to communicate fluently in English and the designated second language to provide direct services, coordinate care, and maintain effective relationships with clients, families, schools, and community partners. The Bilingual BHIS Caseworker delivers culturally and linguistically responsive services to reduce language barriers, improve engagement and access to care, and support positive outcomes for youth and families.
SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIP:
Reports to the BHIS Operations Manager
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Adheres to the philosophy, values, commitments and practices of the Sanctuary model in guiding the day-to-day interactions with clients, families and staff.

- Teaches and coaches the client and family, in both English and/or the designated second language, to enhance their functioning both within the family and the community.
- Enhances and promotes communication, problem-solving, emotional regulation, anger management, and social skills.
- Uses creative interventions to modify the psychological, behavioral, emotional, cognitive and social factors affecting clients’ functioning.
- Translates or interprets basic program information, educational materials, and service coordination communications as appropriate and within agency policy. Utilizes qualified medical interpreters when required for clinical or legal matters beyond the employee's scope.
- Maintains accurate and timely client documentation and records in accordance with agency requirements including, but not limited to, completing intake interview and paperwork, creating treatment plans with families, entering progress notes, and writing discharge summaries at the termination of services.
- Maintains regular contact with referral sources, families, and other relevant parties, communicating in English and/or the designated second language as appropriate to meet client and family needs.
- Attends all mandatory and scheduled meetings and trainings.
- Maintains professional staff/client relationships and appropriate role and relationship boundaries.
- Protects client confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, state regulations, and agency policies.
- Assists families in accessing community resources and services, including providing information in their preferred language and making appropriate referrals.
- Transport clients to appointments or community activities, as needed. Employee must meet agency motor vehicle requirements.

- Participates as an active member of the program team.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
HOURS AND REMUNERATION:
The duties and responsibilities of the Bilingual BHIS Services Caseworker will generally be performed within a forty-hour week. However, the needs of the program will dictate the Bilingual BHIS Caseworker’s hours of work. Remuneration will be in line with education, experience, and bilingual proficiency.

GENERAL: At the time of employment and every three (3) years thereafter, the person shall receive a physician’s certification of adequate health to perform duties. Must have satisfactory background checks and meet federal fingerprinting requirements through the Division of Criminal Investigation and the Abuse Registries (which includes child abuse, dependent adult abuse and sexual offender registries). At the time of employment and throughout employment with the agency, the person shall have a valid Driver’s license and show proof of valid liability insurance on own vehicle.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must pass and/or complete: New Staff Orientation, Mandatory Reporters Training, and any additional training required by the supervisor during the first six months of employment.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES: Requires Bachelor’s degree in social sciences field (e.g. social work, psychology, sociology, human services/development, child development) with a minimum of 1 year experience or 20 hours training in child mental health OR bachelor’s degree in non-social science field (e.g. education including special education, criminal justice, biology, communications) with a minimum of 2 years’ experience or 30 hours training in child mental health. Must have the ability to communicate effectively verbally and/or in writing. Must have knowledge of and the ability to implement current theoretical approaches to counseling. Must demonstrate competence in understanding of population served, providing individual and family services, ability to effectively engage client/family/provider in services, and commitment to providing safe, high-quality care to the children, youth and families served. Must be able to demonstrate cultural competence and the ability to provide services in English and the designated second language. Ability to effectively engage clients and families with limited English proficiency while maintaining professional standards and documentation requirements.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, write, analyze, and interpret general periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations in English. Ability to communicate fluently in both English and the designated second language with clients, families, community partners, and agency staff. Ability to prepare reports, correspondence, and client documentation in English, and communicate program information accurately in the designated second language. Language proficiency may be evaluated during the selection process.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions, verbal and behavioral interaction, and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Physical restraint of clients may be required on occasion. Walking, standing, and sitting required. Using hands to finger, handle and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job the employee is periodically exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
