Summary/objective 
The Clinical Laboratory Scientist Manager, in collaboration with providers and other healthcare team members, supervises general operations, trains and develops clinical laboratory services and serves as a back-up in performing department responsibilities.

Pay: $57.22-$68.66

Essential functions

•    Responsible for ensuring Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA) licensure for clinical and waived laboratory testing.
•    Ensures laboratory staff are providing high quality patient care.
•    Leads ISTAT, waived testing and point of care testing activities in hospital and clinical set-ting.
•    Ensures ongoing compliance with proficiency testing, quality, safety and performance im-provement standards.
•    Supervises equipment troubleshooting and preventative maintenance for laboratory equipment to include applicable document and record retention.  Works with external ven-dors, as necessary, in order to maintain operational effectiveness of equipment.
•    Collaborates with internal HIM and business office staff to ensure correct coding and com-pliance.
•    Coordinates with purchasing department to develop and maintain vendor relationships; evaluates new equipment, supplies, and reagents while maintaining appropriate inventory levels.
•    Responsibility for ensuring compliance with regulatory standards to include OSHA and other state/federal agencies.
•    Ensures laboratory readiness for pertinent licensing and credentialing surveys (planned and unplanned) and coordinates all follow-up activities for laboratory.
•    Responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations and appli-cable hospital policies and procedures. 
•    Completion of special projects and other duties as assigned  
Competencies
•    Demonstrated proficiency in using Electronic Health Record (EHR) to include any sub-systems used to perform laboratory related services.
•    Demonstrates proficiency in budgeting and financial reporting, collaborating with finance/ accounting staff, as necessary.
•    Uses sound clinical and scientific skills sufficient to supervise clinical laboratory staff.
•    Demonstrated knowledge of applicable laws, rules and regulations related to clinical la-boratory in hospital setting.
•    Demonstrated ability to supervise staff, manage performance, lab scheduling, provide feedback and to evaluate performance of subordinates.
•    Possesses understanding of hospital operational policies and procedures related to clini-cal laboratory in hospital setting.

Supervisory responsibilities
Supervises Phlebotomists, Laboratory Aids and Clinical Laboratory Scientists.

Work environment
•    Professional hospital laboratory setting which includes exposure to low office tempera-tures and high noise levels due to continually operating laboratory equipment/machinery.
•    Occasional exposure to adverse or inclement weather if traversing between hospital build-ings.

Physical demands
•    Must be able to walk, stand, push, pull and lift
•    Must have the ability to lift heavy reagent containers, up to 30 lbs.

Travel required
Travel limited to occasional conference attendance.

Required education and experience
•    High school diploma or GED equivalent
•    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four (4) year university
•    Minimum of five (5) years as a Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS) in a hospital setting
•    Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience
•    California licensed clinical laboratory scientist (ASCP CLS) current and in good standing

Preferred education and experience
•    Bachelor’s degree in science or healthcare related field
•    Preferred supervisory experience in hospital laboratory setting
