Junior Fortinet Engineer

Salary: $75,000-$85,000 plus Bonus
About the Opportunity
We are recruiting a Junior Fortinet Engineer on behalf of our client. This role supports Fortinet FortiGate firewalls across multiple client environments, with guidance from senior engineers.
You will troubleshoot network and firewall issues, monitor security alerts, make controlled configuration changes, and maintain clear technical documentation. This opportunity is suited to an early-career network security professional with hands-on FortiGate experience who wants to build technical skills in a client-facing environment.
What You’ll Do
- Monitor and respond to alerts and support tickets involving Fortinet FortiGate firewalls.
- Troubleshoot connectivity, NAT, VPN, and firewall policy issues.
- Perform basic configuration changes, firewall rule modifications, and security policy updates under senior guidance and established change-control procedures.
- Assist with onboarding client firewalls and applying standardized changes through FortiManager.
- Review FortiGate and/or FortiAnalyzer logs to assist with incident investigation and security troubleshooting.
- Document configurations, changes, and troubleshooting steps in the ticketing system and knowledge base.
- Collaborate with senior engineers, clients, and other technical teams to resolve issues.
- Participate in after-hours support or an on-call rotation as required, with senior support available.
- Stay current with Fortinet products, updates, and security best practices.
Required Qualifications
- 1-3 years of professional experience in network security or firewall support, with hands-on Fortinet FortiGate experience required.
- Working knowledge of FortiOS and fundamental networking concepts, including TCP/IP, routing, NAT, VLANs, and DNS.
- Familiarity with firewall policies, objects, address groups, and basic IPsec or SSL VPN technologies.
- Experience using ticketing systems and documenting technical work.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to follow established procedures.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for working with clients and internal teams.
- Ability to prioritize support requests across multiple client environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Fortinet NSE 4 certification or progress toward a relevant Fortinet certification.
- Exposure to FortiManager and/or FortiAnalyzer.
- Experience with centralized management of multiple FortiGate devices.
- Hands-on experience with Palo Alto Networks firewalls, including PAN-OS and security policies.
- Familiarity with change management processes and ITIL concepts.
- Understanding of least privilege, network segmentation, and security logging.
- Experience supporting production environments within an MSP or MSSP.
Pay: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
