Campus Safety Worker - Temporary

POSITION SUMMARY

Temporary Campus Safety Officer monitors student behavior on the school campus and at select extra-curricular events; patrols and checks facilities for security; performs traffic and crowd control, responds to urgent situations, assists the Success Center staff, and greets and controls access of visitors to the campus.  This is a part-time, as-needed position.

Reports to: Campus Safety Supervisor

Supervisory duties: None

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Enforces school policies and rules
• Observes and controls student behavior in non-classroom activities, including, but not limited to, before and after school activities, lunch periods, passing periods, and special school activities such as dances, theater performances, and home athletic events
• Assists school administration in daily tasks including traffic supervision, parking regulations, lunch, break, and chapel supervision
• Refers students to an Administrator, as necessary
• Discourages disruptive and potentially dangerous behavior
• Observes, controls, and reports damage to school property
• Patrols the campus, student parking, and loitering areas, as well as the surrounding off-campus area
• Secures facilities, including main buildings, classrooms, restrooms, field, and locker rooms
• Uses hand-held radio for communication
• Locates students on campus; escorts students to/from classes
• May detain students or non-students until the arrival of law enforcement personnel
• Assists in the evacuation of buildings
• Assists in checking for weapons, drugs, or alcohol by established procedures
• Discusses behavior and attendance problems informally with students
• Identifies and checks the presence of any unauthorized individuals on campus
• Responds to reports of injuries or emergencies
• Completes reports, as required
• Drives carts or other light vehicles around the campus
• Greets and assists campus visitors, parents, students
• Assists faculty in classroom supervision as needed

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

• Additional duties as assigned
• Assists Maintenance/Custodial staff as needed
• Assists Success Center/Welcome Center staff as needed
• Attends department and faculty meetings and required school functions

Education

High School Diploma

Experience

Some paid or volunteer experience on campus security supervision, or any combination of training, education, and experience that could likely provide the desired knowledge and abilities

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, AND CLEARANCES

• Valid Fingerprint
• Valid CPR and First Aid certifications
• TB Risk Assessment
• Ministry Safe Clearance

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• The employee must have the physical abilities to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above
• Frequently move about the campus, sit for extended periods, talk and hear, use hands to handle, feel, or grasp objects
• Occasionally stand, walk, push, pull, or lift, up to 50 pounds, reach with hands or arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crawl, taste, or smell

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• The majority of work is performed in a climate-controlled school setting, with occasional outside exposure to varying weather conditions.
• The noise level is that of a typical quiet office setting with occasional exposure to moderate to loud noise at school events
