Position: Adjustment Counselor
REPORTS TO: Principal
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides a comprehensive school counseling program for students in PreK–6.
- Supports students’ academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development.
- Provides individual and small-group counseling services as appropriate.
- Implements developmentally appropriate classroom guidance lessons.
- Assists students in developing problem-solving, conflict resolution, and self-regulation skills.
- Collaborates with administration and staff to support a positive school climate and culture.
- Participates in student support meetings and multidisciplinary teams.
- Assists with crisis intervention and response as needed.
- Maintains appropriate documentation and confidential student records.
- Supports attendance initiatives and family outreach efforts.
- Assists with transition planning between grade levels and schools.
- Provides consultation and support to teachers and families regarding student needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Communicates effectively and professionally with students, families, staff, and community agencies.
- Collaborates with teachers, administrators, school psychologists, adjustment counselors, nurses, and outside providers.
- Participates in IEP, 504, SST, and other student support meetings as required.
- Maintains respectful, collegial, and collaborative relationships with colleagues.
Promotes equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices within the school community.
- Adheres to ethical standards and confidentiality requirements.
- Maintains accurate and timely records and documentation.
- Participates in professional development and ongoing learning opportunities.
- Supports the extracurricular and community life of the school.
- Adheres to and upholds school rules, procedures, and district policies.
- Reflects positively on the Orange Elementary Schools community.
- Contributes positively to the professional culture of the school.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Appropriate Massachusetts DESE Licensure required
- Experience working with elementary-aged students is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills required.
- Knowledge of social-emotional learning, trauma-informed practices, and behavioral interventions preferred.
Salary: $45,174 - $93,835 (subject to change- due to pending contract negotiations) based on experience and credentials.
