Assistant School Bus Dispatcher

Orange County Transit, LLC is a rapidly growing school bus company dedicated to providing safe, reliable, and efficient student transportation. We are currently seeking an experienced and highly organized Assistant School Bus Dispatcher to join our team at our Middletown location.

Job Summary:
As an Assistant School Bus Dispatcher, you will play a critical role in our daily operations. You will work closely with and support the Head Dispatcher to coordinate, schedule, and dispatch daily school routes, sports trips, and special events. This position requires an adaptable professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, excels at multitasking, and maintains excellent communication under pressure.

Key Responsibilities:

• Dispatch Support: Assist the Head Dispatcher with the daily scheduling, coordination, and dispatching of bus routes and trips.
• Communication: Answer high-volume telephone lines and manage radio communications professionally and calmly in a hectic environment.
• Data Management: Perform extensive data entry, maintain accurate route logs, and update schedules using routing software.
• Problem Solving: Respond creatively and quickly to changing priorities, route delays, or mechanical issues to ensure seamless service.
• Flexibility: Step in to assist with school bus driving or bus monitoring duties when operational needs require coverage. Be available to work a split shift when needed.
• Team Collaboration: Work independently and collaboratively with drivers, management, and school districts to meet all strict operational deadlines.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Experience: 1–2 years of dispatching experience required (experience in the School Bus or Student Transportation industry is highly preferred).
• Technical Skills: Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and comfort learning or using specialized routing software.
• Driving Readiness: Must be willing to train to become a licensed School Bus Driver and/or have previous school bus experience.
• Compliance: Ability to pass a mandatory drug screening, physical exam, and background checks.
• Core Skills: Exceptional multitasking abilities, strong organizational skills, and a proven track record of handling shifting priorities.
