The Popular Music Conservatory at the Orange County School of the Arts is looking to fill the following teaching position: Contemporary Band Ensemble Coach- This position focuses on developing student musicians in a modern band setting, including contemporary performance practice, rehearsal technique, arrangement, and live ensemble execution. The ideal candidate is an active music practitioner with experience in popular music performance and ensemble direction, capable of preparing students for real-world stage and industry environments. The instructor will cultivate strong musicianship, collaboration, and performance readiness in a stylistically current and artistically rigorous setting. This position centers on coaching contemporary band ensembles that reflect current industry practices. Students engage in performance-driven learning focused on collaboration, musicianship, stagecraft, and real-world musical versatility within popular music styles.

Required Qualifications: • Professional experience as a performing musician in contemporary/popular music • Experience coaching or directing small to mid-sized music ensembles • Strong proficiency in contemporary instruments and/or band leadership (e.g., rhythm section, guitar, bass, drums, keys, vocals) • Ability to teach ensemble balance, groove, arrangement, and live performance skills • Experience working with high school-aged students in a performance-based environment • Strong communication, leadership, and classroom management skills • Ability to create engaging, student-centered rehearsal and performance experiences • Collaborative approach to working within a conservatory arts program Preferred Qualifications: • Professional touring, recording, or live performance experience in contemporary music • Experience directing modern band programs, pop ensembles, or commercial music groups • Ability to arrange or adapt contemporary repertoire for student ensembles • Knowledge of live sound, amplification, and basic production workflows • Familiarity with DAWs and/or integrating technology into ensemble rehearsal and performance • Experience preparing students for live performances, showcases, or industry-style gigs • Background in coaching student musicians in stylistically diverse contemporary genres • Experience working within arts schools, magnet programs, or conservatory environments
