Salary Schedule

To coordinate, provide and make available desired expertise in the area of Exceptional Student Services to help schools achieve desired priorities in response to needs and disparities identified at the school and classroom level. To provide leadership in compliance issues for district programs and charter schools.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited institution required, Educational Leadership certification required or working toward certification in educational leadership.
  • Valid Florida teaching certificate or have applied to obtain a Florida teaching certificate required to include Exceptional Student Education certification required.
  • Three (3) years of teaching experience required, in working with students with disabilities
  • One (1) year coaching or teacher leader experience to include leading professional learning and using coaching competencies.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of teaching and learning processes. Knowledge of organization and management theory and practice. Knowledge and commitment to decentralized decision-making and accountability for results that facilitate creative processes toward achievement of district goals. Knowledge and understanding of the distinction between line and staff positions and functions within an organization. Knowledge of exceptional education, policies, procedures and support services delivery systems for regular education, bilingual education and exceptional education students. Ability to work and communicate effectively with people to focus resources (both human and financial) toward the achievement of district goals. Ability to facilitate group processes in consensus building, conflict resolution, planning and decision-making. Understands that quality teaching and learning are the essential processes and product of public schools and has the ability to focus human and financial resources toward this end. The ability to work with parents, community members, and key stakeholders to achieve desired results.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Describes physical conditions of this position.

5 Reaching Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

5 Lifting Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position through the use of the upper extremities and back muscles exerting up to 10 pounds of force.

80 Finger Dexterity Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm.

70 Grasping Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.

90 Talking Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed accurately, loudly or quickly.

90 Hearing Acuity The ability to perceive speech and other environmental sounds at normal loudness levels.

90 Visual Acuity The power to see at a level which allows reading of numbers and text, operation of equipment, inspection of machines, etc.

Note Will total more than 100 percent as several activities may be performed at one time.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Conditions the worker will be subject to in this position.

Indoors and Outdoors The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manifest a professional code of ethics and values.
  • Respond to internal and external customers in a timely, accurate, courteous, and empathic manner representing OCPS in a positive light.
  • Model the routine, intentional and effective use of technology in daily work, including communications, organization, and management tasks.
  • Assist in directing and supervising the Exceptional Student Services staff in terms of their performance responsibilities and productivity in achieving district goals.
  • Develop, maintain and monitor a tracking system related to the Exceptional Student Services staff on referrals and case studies.
  • Provide, upon request, consultations to Exceptional Student Services staff on individual cases.
  • Supervise and evaluate assigned staff including their ability to serve their customers (district departments and schools) needs by working with and through the Director ESE Policy and Procedures and Supplemental Services Non-Public, Private, and Charter.
  • Serve as liaison with district Student Services unit to assure consistency of Exceptional Student Services and those functions required for district wide consistency and standardization.
  • Implement a plan and direct a system of feedback and assessment of Exceptional Student Services staff to determine their responsiveness to the needs of the schools.
  • Develop and interpret procedures in the education of students with disabilities that comply with state and federal statutes and guidelines.
  • Implement and monitor a process of statistical reporting and data collection on the referral, evaluation, eligibility and dismissal process for students with disabilities through quarterly reports.
  • Facilitate communication with parents, students and staff resolving problems and critical issues.
  • Provide professional development for parents, schools, teachers or staff related to Exceptional Student Education.
  • Keep the Director ESE Policy Non-Public and Charter informed of critical issues and incidents within his/her area of responsibility about which the supervisor should be aware.
  • Coach and mentor private school teachers and Liaisons in meeting the needs of their students will disabilities (SWD).
  • Develop and conduct Professional Development for private school teachers and administrators focusing on strategies designed to help them support the needs of their students with disabilities.
  • Provide district leadership through participation in collaborative working groups, including cross-department projects and initiatives.
  • Follow the district’s policies and procedures as related to all HRMD guidelines the district’s instructional initiatives.
  • Follow the district’s policies and procedures as related to fixed assets.
  • Develop leadership in subordinates.
  • Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology being used by OCPS. With the support of the district, attend training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position.
  • Responsible for maintaining timely and accurate information and accountable for the quality of information maintained by those they supervise.

Essential Performance Responsibilities

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Non-bargaining unit compensation plan, twelve months, 8.0 hours per day.
