Behavior Interventionist
One-Year Grant-Funded Position
The Behavior Interventionist will provide direct behavioral support services to students experiencing behavioral, social, emotional, and school adjustment challenges. The position will work collaboratively with school staff, families, and division support personnel to develop, implement, and monitor positive behavior interventions that promote student success, safety, and well-being.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
- Provide direct behavioral support and intervention services to students demonstrating behavioral, emotional, or social challenges.
- Develop, implement, and monitor Positive Behavior Support Plans (PBSPs) and other individualized behavioral interventions.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to implement evidence-based behavior strategies and interventions within classroom and school settings.
- Collect, maintain, and analyze behavioral data to monitor student progress and inform intervention decisions.
- Conduct observations and assist in identifying behavioral patterns, triggers, and effective intervention strategies.
- Support school personnel in implementing behavior management practices and proactive behavioral supports.
- Working collaboratively with the Behavior Specialist, School Counselors, School Social Workers, Case Managers, Administrators, and other relevant staff to ensure coordinated support for students.
- Assist in developing and maintaining safe, positive, and inclusive learning environments.
- Communicate effectively with families regarding student behavioral progress and intervention plans as appropriate.
- Promote the safety of students and school staff
- Maintain confidentiality of student information and records in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and division policies.
- Maintain a high level of ethical and professional behavior.
- Participate in professional learning and required training opportunities.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Skills and Abilities Required:
- Knowledge of positive behavior interventions and behavior management techniques
- Ability to establish positive relationships with students, families, and school personnel.
- Ability to collect, interpret, and utilize behavioral data to guide interventions and decision-making.
- Strong collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills.

- Ability to remain calm and professional when responding to challenging student behaviors.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Human Services, Education, Behavioral Science, or a closely related field required.
- Experience working with children or adolescents in educational, behavioral health, counseling, or related settings preferred.
- Experience implementing behavioral interventions and behavior support plans preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of positive behavior support practices preferred.
Terms of Employment:
- This position is funded through a Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) grant.
- Employment is contingent upon continued grant funding.
- This is a one-year grant-funded position.
Salary : $56,442 - $77,559
