Orange County Utilities provides water resources and solid waste recovery services to protect and enrich the lives of the citizens and guests of Orange County Florida. The Field Services Division is responsible for the inspection, testing, regulatory compliance, operation, and maintenance of over 4,800 miles of pipeline, over 11,000 fire hydrants, and approximately 860 wastewater pump stations.
The Field Services Division is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill the Water Distribution Utilities Supervisor.
Job Description
General Functions:
Supervises activities performed within the designated Field Services Water Distribution Group, plans and controls activities and resources to meet operational and budgetary objectives. This is highly responsible work requiring interaction with vendors, engineers and local regulatory officials as well as individual customer homeowner¿s groups. Work requires considerable independent judgment with minimal supervision.
Representative Duties /Assignments
- Assures strategic goals and objectives of Orange County and the Utilities Field Services Department are promoted and accomplished through all actions taken.
- Plans, organizes and controls daily work activities for group assigned.
- Administer policy and procedure manual, bargaining unit agreement, department policies, health and safety manual, and Standards and Specifications Manual.
- Establishes standards of performance and assures standards are achieved by the work group.
- Maintain high performance level by coaching, training and developing skills of work group.
- Initiates and/or approves purchases for tools, equipment, services and supplies.
- Conducts performance reviews, acknowledges good performance, approves payroll and initiates disciplinary actions as needed.
- Participates in establishing budget for section assigned and monitors budgetary goals.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate¿s degree and five years of experience to include one (1) year supervisory experience in utility operations, training, underground construction, or an industrial environment; or an equivalent combination of education, or experience.
Based on area of assignment, may be required to possess and maintain the appropriate certification or license.
Preferences
- Strong collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams
- Strong working knowledge of water and wastewater systems including operations maintenance and rehabilitation of infrastructure.
- Experience in work order management, planning workload, interpreting data to optimize work groups.
- Experience scheduling and coordinating multiple crews to perform construction activities.
- Currently possess FDEP Distribution Systems Operator Level 1 License or can obtain the FDEP Distribution Systems Operator Level 1 License within one (1) year of employment.

Hours: 40
Work schedule: Nine (9) hours per day, five (5) days per week (off every other Monday or Friday) to include weekends and holidays. Hours may change based on operational needs.
This position is considered an emergency response. Employees designated in an emergency response capacity are required to work in emergency functions for which they are certified during the pre-disaster, disaster, and post-disaster phases of a declared emergency.
Selected candidate will be required to successfully complete the pre-employment drug, physical and background check.
