Work is performed under the general direction of the Medical Director or designee with considerable leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures in the performance of duties, both in terms of planning and accomplishing work, and in making decisions regarding animal needs and the administration of animal health care programs. Supervision over others is required of this position. Position does related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in life sciences, zoology, biology or closely related field AND two (2) years of work experience in a veterinary technician/assistant role or equivalent AND two (2) years of work experience in animal welfare administration with experience in directly managing and supervising staff, OR
An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined above. A higher degree does not substitute for work experience.
Experience in private practice veterinary care or public facing clinic is strongly preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
An employee is this class is required to participate as an in-person weekend manager on a rotational basis and serve as an on call medical consultant for sick or injured stray animals to be seen by the local emergency clinic.
Must be a Certified Euthanasia Technician within the first six (6) months of hire.
Must be a Certified Rabies Vaccinator at the earliest class offering for such certification and no later than one (1) year of hire.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
All offers of employment are conditioned upon successful clearance of a background check. This is a safety sensitive position and participation in the Drug and Alcohol Program is required. Employment cannot commence until the employee has been cleared of all conditions.
Further, all offers of employment are contingent upon the satisfactory verification of your eligibility for employment, successful completion of the required pre-employment testing and/or screening, including drug testing when required and the submission and approval of all new hire documentation completion of your new hire paperwork.
