The Hand Crew Assistant Superintendent recruitment is an Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) internal recruitment. ONLY applications from current, qualified OCFA non-probationary Fire Captains, non-probationary Fire Apparatus Engineers, and non-probationary Firefighters will be accepted.The OCFA is currently recruiting for candidates interested in full-time, temporary, and/or relief Hand Crew Assistant Superintendent opportunities and to establish an eligibility list for future opportunities. The Hand Crew Assistant Superintendent works as a supervisor to plan and carry out wildland firefighting operations and varying complexity as well as respond to all-risk incidents. Their role in this mission involves selection of tactics that support safe, efficient, and expedient hand crew operations – from initial attack to mop-up and suppression repair. Incumbents are responsible for supporting the Superintendent and the crew in daily duties including training, project work and administrative functions.ASSIGNMENT TYPESFULL-TIME: The fulltime assignment is a classification change from incumbents' current classification as a Fire Captain, Fire Apparatus Engineer, or Firefighter. The position will work a 4/10 schedule in a two-week cycle. Work schedules may be adjusted based on organizational need. Incumbents are allowed to work backfill in their previous classification.TEMPORARY ASSIGNMENT: A temporary assignment is to be filled no longer than a one-year assignment and incumbent will be returned to their previous classification as a Fire Captain, Fire Apparatus Engineer, or Firefighter upon end of assignment. The position will work a 4/10 schedule in a two-week cycle. Work schedules may be adjusted based on organizational need. Incumbents are allowed to work backfill in their previous classification.RELIEF/BACKFILL POOL: Relief/backfill are short term assignments and will be utilized from an established pool of qualified candidates to maintain adequate staffing levels due to absence of the regularly assigned employee. COMPENSATION Employees assigned to a Hand Crew Assistant Superintendent position will be eligible to receive Staff Assignment Pay (SAP) and Staff Incentive Pay (SIP).
