FULL‑TIME INSTRUCTOR
Orange County Electrical Joint Apprenticeship Training Center (JATC)
Location: Santa Ana, California
Reports To: Training Director
Position Overview
The Orange County Electrical JATC is seeking a Full‑Time Instructor to deliver high‑quality classroom and laboratory instruction for apprentices, journeymen, and other scheduled programs. This role is central to maintaining instructional excellence, supporting student success, and ensuring a safe, organized, and professional training environment.
Schedule
- 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday, including evening class instruction
- Occasional Saturdays as required
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Student Support
- Teach apprentice, journeyman, and other courses as scheduled by the Training Center
- Develop syllabi and lesson plans to track progress and completion of required material
- Administer, grade, and submit written tests in accordance with NJATC guidelines
- Provide academic support to students during and outside scheduled class hours
- Submit grades, attendance, and apprentice evaluations per JATC policy
- Utilize instructional technology to enhance learning
Classroom & Lab Operations
- Maintain an orderly classroom and ensure readiness of all instructional tools and materials
- Develop, install, maintain, and repair training equipment and labs as needed
- Become proficient in NJATC and other required training software
Professional Standards & Compliance
- Begin class on time and conduct instruction in an organized, professional manner
- Demonstrate strong subject‑matter expertise and effective instructional practices
- Remain approachable, professional, and supportive of students
- Ensure compliance with all approved JATC policies and procedures
Training Center Support
- Ensure the facility is secured after evening classes
- Assist with recruiting efforts, including tours, presentations, career fairs, and aptitude test proctoring
- Attend required meetings, trainings, and workshops
- Share responsibility for facility upkeep and cleanliness
- Assist the Training Director, curriculum development, and part‑time instructors as needed
Required Qualifications
- Current State Certified Electricians License preferred
- Journeyman‑level knowledge of electrical construction
- Strong working knowledge of electrical equipment, tools, and mechanical devices
- Thorough understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC)
- Knowledge of OSHA and applicable safety regulations
- Understanding of the electrical construction industry and contractor operations
- Familiarity with supervisory responsibilities and job steward roles
- Knowledge of instructional methods and training techniques
- Working knowledge of computer hardware and software
- Knowledge of IBEW Constitution and Bylaws
