The Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) serves some of Orange County’s most vulnerable student populations and provides support and mandated fiscal oversight to 28 school districts serving more than 600 schools and approximately 475,000 students. In addition to providing direct instruction to students through its own alternative and special education programs, OCDE administers an array of programs and services that are critical to the operations of local school districts and community colleges, facilitating professional development, legal guidance, payroll, career and technical education support, high-speed internet access, Local Control and Accountability Plan assistance and approval, resources for families, and student enrichment. Job Summary
The Orange County Department of Education’s Administrative Services Division is seeking a skilled and collaborative professional to provide advanced accounting and fiscal support for state, federal, and grant-funded programs. This key role ensures compliance with funding requirements, develops and monitors complex budgets, prepares detailed financial analyses and reports, and partners with program leaders to support fiscal accountability and strategic decision-making. The Senior Project Accountant also serves as a resource to OCDE staff providing guidance on financial reporting, audits, and funding processes. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong analytical and communication skills, exceptional attention to detail, and a commitment to service excellence in support of OCDE’s mission to serve students, schools, and communities.
Requirements / Qualifications
Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field. • Five (5) years of accounting experience, including two (2) years in project or grant fund accounting.
