GENERAL SUMMARY:The Math Intervention Specialist provides high-quality, targeted academic intervention within a small school environment where every student is known and valued as an individual. This full-time, 12-month credentialed position delivers push-in and pull-out Math support during the school day, AM (zero period) and after-school academic support, and summer intervention programming for students in grades 6-12. The Specialist upholds the mission and values of OCCA and contributes to our goal that every student in California has access to a high-quality classical education.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Uphold a culture of high expectations that includes the shared belief of raising good citizens through instruction and the fostering of moral virtue
  2. Provide push-in support within Math classrooms, reinforcing teacher-led instruction and assisting individual students or small groups
  3. Provide pull-out intervention for students identified through assessment data as needing targeted, individualized, or small-group support
  4. Design and deliver intervention plans aligned to diagnostic and formative assessment data
  5. Lead AM (zero period) and after-school academic support sessions during the school year
  6. Plan and deliver Math intervention programming during the summer term to prevent regression and close identified gaps
  7. Monitor and document student progress toward intervention goals; adjust instruction based on results
  8. Collaborate with Math teachers, the Assistant Headmaster, and support staff (e.g., 504/IEP teams as applicable) to align intervention with classroom instruction
  9. Communicate regularly with students and families regarding intervention progress
  10. Manage student behavior during support sessions to ensure full engagement
  11. Actively participate in professional development activities
  12. Maintain accurate records of intervention sessions, progress data, and attendance
  13. Support the mission, vision, and core values of OCCA
  14. Perform other related duties as required and assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:1) Required knowledge, skills & abilities:
  1. Strong knowledge of secondary Mathematics (Algebra I/II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus) and common areas of student difficulty
  2. Knowledge of child cognitive development, learning styles, and evidence-based intervention strategies
  3. Ability to analyze diagnostic and formative assessment data to design intervention plans
  4. Ability and willingness to implement OCCA & Barney Charter School Initiative Instructional Guidelines and Best Practices
  5. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with certificated teachers and leadership
  6. Ability to build rapport with students and support a positive learning environment
  7. Ability to collaborate with colleagues, parents, and community
  8. Computer and internet research skills

2) Minimum educational level:
  1. Bachelor's degree required
  2. Valid Single Subject California Teaching Credential in Mathematics required (Supplemental authorization preferred; Education Specialist credential also considered)

3) Experience required:
  1. 1 year of teaching or intervention experience preferred
  2. Experience with Math intervention, data analysis, or progress monitoring strongly preferred

4) Physical Demands:Occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Frequently required to sit, stand, move, feel, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
5) Work Environment:Normal classroom/school setting. Mild exposure to dust, oils, and cleaning chemicals. Indoor and/or outdoor work possible. Moderate exposure to childhood illnesses.
