Full-Time Oral Surgery Assistant
Our oral surgery practice is seeking a Full-Time Oral Surgery Assistant to join our dedicated team. Position Overview
As an Oral Surgery Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting the oral surgeon and ensuring efficient daily operations. You will be involved in patient care, surgical procedures, and clinical coordination before, during, and after treatment.
Key Responsibilities
Surgical Support
- Assist the oral surgeon during procedures by passing instruments, maintaining a sterile field, and anticipating clinical needs.
Patient Consultation & Care
- Obtain patient histories and assist during consultations.
- Support the surgeon in explaining treatment plans and procedures.
- Monitor and recover sedated patients.
Prosthetics Assistance
- Support procedures involving prosthetics (e.g., dental implants) by preparing instruments and materials, assisting with placement, and aiding with impressions and adjustments as needed.
Operatory Preparation
- Prepare and set up treatment rooms prior to procedures.
- Ensure all instruments, equipment, and supplies are properly organized, clean, and sterilized.
Imaging
- Operate and maintain panoramic and cone-beam CT imaging equipment.
Instrument Sterilization
- Clean, sterilize, store, and maintain all surgical instruments and equipment in compliance with safety standards.
Pre‑ and Post‑Operative Instructions
- Educate patients on pre-operative requirements (fasting, medications, transportation).
- Provide post-operative care instructions, including wound care, pain management, and dietary guidelines.
Patient Confidentiality
- Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA and confidentiality standards regarding all patient information.
Inventory Management
- Monitor and track clinical supplies and equipment.
- Assist with ordering and maintaining appropriate inventory levels.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Surgical assistant certification or experience preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced clinical environment
Experience
- Minimum of 1 year of Dental Assisting or Medical Assisting experience (preferred)
Licenses & Certifications (Preferred)
- ACLS Certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Certified Dental Assistant
- X-Ray Certification
Schedule
- Monday – Friday
- 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (with potential for one shorter day per week)
