Conceptual Design of Electrical Systems:
- Assists in the design, development, and integration of electrical systems for hardware products, following established engineering guidelines to meet performance, power efficiency, security, and reliability requirements.
- Gains experience applying fundamental engineering principles to system optimization.
- Supports parts selection, qualification, Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) design, and schematic capture for electrical subsystems, ensuring alignment with design specifications, manufacturability considerations, and industry standards.
- Assists in design analysis by conducting basic modeling and simulations of standard electrical systems, learning how design choices impact performance across different operating conditions.
- Develops board floor planning and layout designs, focusing on component placement, power distribution, high-speed signal routing, and electromagnetic interference (EMI) mitigation under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Helps diagnose and resolve power and signal integrity issues, working through straightforward technical challenges while building problem-solving experience.
- Collaborates with firmware, software, and diagnostics teams to support electrical subsystem integration, ensuring compatibility with overall server functionality.
- Supports integration, validation, and debugging of analog and digital systems and subsystems, by assisting with test setup, execution, and data analysis.
- Prepares and maintains automation platforms for electrical subsystem validation, gaining experience in test automation scripting, hardware validation workflows, and reliability testing methods.
- Follows test plans to validate prototypes and assists in debugging electrical performance issues, learning structured troubleshooting techniques to analyze waveforms, identify anomalies, and assist in root cause investigations.
- Assists with sustaining engineering activities such as resolving customer escalations, performing root cause analysis, qualifying alternate source components, and resolving end-of-life component issues.
- Assists in creating and maintaining technical documentation, including schematics, test plans, test reports, signal integrity constraints, and bills of materials, ensuring accuracy and traceability of design decisions.
- Participates in formal design reviews, contributing insights on electrical subsystem performance while learning from senior engineers’ decision-making processes.
- Stays current on emerging technologies, industry standards, tools, and best practices, applying knowledge to improve designs and troubleshoot issues.
- Contributes to process improvement and innovation by identifying potential enhancements in electrical design and learning how senior engineers evaluate and implement new methodologies.
- Supports cross-functional teams by applying fundamental engineering knowledge of electrical design to enhance product quality and integrate best practices into development cycles.
Electromagnetic Compatibility:
- Supports the development of hardware products that meet applicable safety, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and environmental regulations under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Partners with cross-functional teams to incorporate established compliance requirements into product specifications and assists in executing pre-compliance testing and preparing documentation for third-party certifications.
- Stays informed about relevant regulatory updates and escalates potential impacts to senior team members, contributing to the maintenance of global market access through accurate documentation and design support.
Planning & Execution:
- Tracks timelines with minimal supervision, ensuring work is completed in a timely manner and is in alignment with project requirements. Prioritizes and adjusts work as resources or timelines change, with some guidance.
- Collaborates within team to better understand expectations and achieve shared objectives. Leverages a foundational understanding of business, stakeholder, and/or customer needs to build partnerships with limited guidance. Actively listens and asks questions to enhance collaboration.
- Identifies and addresses issues, escalating problems to senior staff as needed in accordance with standard procedures. Compiles and reviews data and/or information from multiple sources to troubleshoot standard and non-standard errors.
