The Habilitation Specialist 1 is needed to ensure continuation of day habilitation services for all individuals participating in their assigned program and is essential for providing opportunities for socialization.

This position has a current caseload of 15 with a capacity for 25.PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties include, but are not limited to : · Provide habilitation services to assigned persons with intellectual and other developmental disabilities in a manner reflecting the stated values of OPWDD : Compassion, Dignity, Diversity, Excellence and Honesty.

  • Work with individuals with developmental disabilities and dual diagnosis to assist them in learning the skills to better help them in gaining independence and enriching their lives.
  • Instruct in developing basic learning and self-help skills, focusing on the three domains of vocational, habilitation and academic enhancement.
  • Develop written training plans based on results from a functional assessment, as well as assessment of service recipient’s skills, preferences, and choices.
  • Work with treatment team in maintaining and assisting current treatment plan, as well as with a future community placement plan.
  • Attend any and all treatment related and team level meetings including, but not limited to CFS’s, ISP’s and quarterly reviews.
  • Transport individuals to community activities as necessary· Other tasks as assigned by supervisor.NOTE :

You must have a valid driver’s license to apply as travel is a part of the duties involved in this position. This may include a state-owned vehicle, as available, or the employee’s own car.

An employee who uses his / her own car will be reimbursed at current negotiated rates.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A bachelor’s or higher-level degree in a Human Services field*ORHave permanent service as a Habilitation Specialist 1OREligible for 70.

  • A degree in a human service field includes the professional disciplines of audiology, community mental health, nursing, nutrition, occupational therapy, physical therapy, psychology, rehabilitation counseling, vocational counseling, social work, speech / language pathology, and therapeutic recreation (including concentrations in art, creative arts, dance, drama, music, or physical education.

A Qualified Intellectual Disorder Professional - designation requires one year's experience working with people with a developmental disability
