This is a full-time on-site role for a Pathology Laboratory Medical Coding Specialist based in Columbia, TN. This could be a remote position for the right candidate.
Pathology Laboratory Medical Coding Specialist
Pay: From $22.00 per hour
Location: In Office at Columbia, TN, Hybrid or Remote acceptable
Position Summary:
As a Pathology Laboratory Medical coding specialist, you will be a vital part of the healthcare team, responsible for accurately assigning ICD-10, CPT codes, HCPCS and
modifiers. Your core skills in anatomical and clinical coding, medical office experience,
and knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology will ensure the precision
and quality of assigning the correct codes. Your premium skills in time management and
attention to detail will be essential in meeting deadlines and maintaining accuracy. With a
focus on medical terminology and pathology, you will contribute to the efficient and

Key Responsibilities
● Review Medical Records: Analyze patient records and documentation to extract relevant
information for coding.
● Assign Codes: Use coding systems such as ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS to assign codes to
diagnoses, procedures, and treatments accurately.
● Ensure Compliance: Adhere to legal and regulatory requirements, including HIPAA, to
maintain patient confidentiality and data security.
● Collaborate with Healthcare Providers: Work closely with physicians and other
healthcare staƯ to clarify diagnoses and obtain additional information as needed.
● Submit Claims: Prepare and submit claims to insurance companies for reimbursement,
ensuring all necessary documentation is included.
● Audit and Review: Conduct audits of medical records to ensure coding accuracy and
compliance with coding guidelines and regulations.
● Stay Updated: Keep abreast of changes in coding standards and regulations to ensure
compliance and accuracy in in coding practices
Required Skills and Qualifications
● Education: An associate or bachelor’s degree in health information management
preferred. Experience may be substituted for this requirement.
● Certification: Certification from recognized organizations such as AAPC (CPC) or AHIMA
(CCS) is preferred. Experience may be substituted for this requirement.
● Knowledge: Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology is
essential for accurate coding. Continued education is a plus.
● Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail to ensure correct coding
and billing.
● Technical Skills: Proficiency in coding software and databases, as well as strong data
entry skills.
● Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact
eƯectively with healthcare providers and insurance companies.
● Experience: Minimum 3 years of Anatomical Pathology Laboratory coding is required.
Minimum 2 years of clinical laboratory coding is preferred.
