What are the responsibilities and job description for the College Admissions Consultant position at Opus College Prep?
Why Opus College Prep?
At Opus College Prep, we work with students starting in 9th grade to build a profile that opens doors. We're growing fast, and we are looking for a consultant who's ready to be part mentor, part strategist, part hype squad for students just starting to figure out who they are and where they're headed.
What will you be doing?
- Be the guide from day one. Work with students across 9th, 10th, and 11th grade, building a strong relationship over multiple years.
- Lead profile building. Help students shape a compelling academic and extracurricular profile early: course selection, activities, leadership, and interests that tell a real story by the time applications roll around.
- Build college lists that actually fit. Help students define schools where they will thrive.
- Play strategist. Help students be strategic about testing timelines, rigor, and positioning. Be a guide for students on the multi-year moves that make an application stand out.
- Coach killer essays. When the time comes, help students find and refine their own voice.
- Be the calm before the storm. Be the steady, trusted voice for stressed-out students and anxious parents throughout the application process.
- Celebrate wins at every stage, not just decision day.
What qualifications are we looking for?
- Experience working with high school students is required and 2 years of admissions experience.
- Bachelor or graduate degree from a Top 50 US University or Oxbridge (special consideration may be given to applicants with experience in undergraduate admissions).
- A genuine love for working with teenagers at every stage, from freshman year through senior year.
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- Superior planning and organizational skills.
- A team player willing to work closely with the Opus team and meet with the Opus team weekly.
Bonus Points for...
- Former admissions officer, English teacher, journalist, journalism teacher, or essay-coach.
- Experience specifically with early-stage profile building and long-term student planning.
- Deep knowledge of merit aid and test-optional strategy.
What will you get?
- Competitive pay flexible scheduling.
- A mission-driven team that celebrates every student milestone, big or small.
- Real professional growth in a fast-moving, high-impact field.
- The chance to be the consultant a student remembers for the rest of their life.
