Job Description:
Optris is a leader in the field of non-contact temperature measurement with a full line of pyrometers and infrared cameras developed to support industrial automation and research applications.
Our engineers and physicists pride themselves on designing the highest quality, most accurate, and most innovative infrared temperature measurement solutions for process applications.
Optris applications engineers work with customers to identify the physical dynamics important to configuring a solution that delivers accurate temperature measurements for industrial processes.
Our products are also used for research and development on applications ranging from basic fault diagnostics on printed circuit boards to electronics to high temperature 3D metal printing.
Position Overview:
The Inside Sales Applications Engineer (SAE) will communicate the value proposition for the company products with prospects through phone, email and chat mediums. Field support activities are also expected for sales presentations and installations with distributors and representatives at Optris customer locations. The Inside Sales Applications Engineer will also be the lead technical support resource for technical questions relating to our infrared pyrometer and IR camera products for both customers and channel partners.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Respond to technical questions submitted by sales prospects interested in the Optris line of infrared cameras and pyrometers by phone, email or chat from our offices in Portsmouth NH.
- Discern customer application requirements, use scenarios and competitive product utilization and leverage this information to position an Optris product solution.
- Develop and submit quotations on product configurations in response to customer requests.
- Offer technical and sales support to sales representatives and distributors on Optris products and measurement applications.
- Travel to customer sites throughout the U.S. and Canada with Distributors is expected.
- Deliver webinars to partner sales organizations highlighting our product line and the applications they service.
- Meeting Organization Support such as Channel Partners meetings and Internal Sales meetings
- Support major trade shows throughout the U.S. and Canada. Present the product line, answer questions and record customer contact information at no less than 5 trade shows per year. Booth set up and tear down will be required.
- Respond to current customers with questions related to pyrometer, infrared camera and software use.
- Content contributions are expected for the development of marketing materials and sales presentations.
- Support commissioning of large system installations at customer locations together with integration specialists from channel partner organizations.
- Work closely with our CRM to ensure accurate lead entry and follow-up strategies.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Reporting Lines:
The Inside Sales Applications Engineer will report directly to the General Manager of OIS but will also work closely with the Operations Manager who will assist the GM in identifying priorities for SAE time allocation.
Qualifications & Skills:
REQUIRED:
- A bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline is preferred.
- A minimum of 3 years working in an application support or inside sales position with a technology-based company.
- Experience with CRM information environments and the use of these environments for sales tracking and proactive marketing.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- A valid passport for travel to Berlin, Germany will be required to interface with technical personnel and to attend company meetings.
- Physical ability to demonstrate Optris instruments in high humidity and high temperature industrial environments. Climbing industrial stairs with infrared cameras and laptop PC’s is often required.
- Business travel will be required and amount to as much as 30% of working days. The majority of this travel will be in the U.S. and Canada in addition to the international travel to Berlin detailed above.
PREFERRED:
- Familiarity with process automation communication protocols is highly desired.
- Solution orientation and resourcefulness
- Physics background or coursework in the fundamentals of heat transfer.
- Experience with business-to-business relationships with industrial distributors or representatives who sell sensor-based products to manufacturing companies.
- Experience with sensor products that measure conditions in plastic, metal, paper, glass or auto industries.
- Experience with products that support research or testing applications.
- Background with Salesforce, Zoho or other customer relationship management software.
