What are the responsibilities and job description for the Vision Therapy Assistant position at Optometric Physicians of Middle Tennessee?
At Optometric Physicians of Middle Tennessee, we are excited to be expanding our vision therapy program and are in search of a candidate to be trained to work in this rewarding field.
This is a great position for an individual who loves to work with people in order to improve their quality of life. A vision therapy assistant works under the doctor's supervision and teaches patients how to effectively use their eyes as a team, to properly process visual information, and how to integrate that information with their other senses and motor movement. This person must be organized, dependable, compassionate, motivated, and eager to learn. Previous experience in vision therapy is not required, as we are willing to train the right person. Key responsibilities:
-Working one on one with individuals to improve visual function based on non-surgical activities
- Communicating with parents, doctors, and patients to successfully plan therapy sessions
-Documenting therapy sessions and planning exercises for future visits
-Running diagnostic testing on patients- including optometry equipment and perceptual testing
-Maintaining a clean, organized, and fun environment for therapy to take place
-Provide home activities and feedback to parents at the end of sessions
-All other duties assigned by management
Qualifications:
-AA or BA/BS
-Previous experience in vision therapy, occupational therapy, psychology or other medical rehabilitation field is valuable, but not required
-Previous experience in teaching, education, and especially special education is valuable, but not required
-A positive and engaging personality
-Self-motivated and detail-oriented
-Strong communication skills
